Wife was flying to Chicago so I rented a car through Alamo. $253 for 8 days paid in advance. Wife missed her flight so I called them up & cancelled the car. They called it a noshow & only refunded me $69. So basically I got charged for 5 days of rental on a car I didn't even see. #alamosucks

I love Alamo. After a horrible experience with Advantage and three hours of anxiety and trying to figure everything out, Alamo gave us a brand new 2013 Ford Focus. The service was beyond amazing and he tried to get us every single discount he could for us. He even threw in free total coverage. THANK YOU ALAMO! We had the best car EVER! Yes, it was sooooo much money but at that point we didn't care, we just needed a car, but seriously it was so worth it. Had it for a week, drove a TON, and only paid about $65 for gas.

Strength:

None that I can determine.

Weakness:

Poor quality, bad customer relations

When I picked up a previously reserved Nissan Versa from Alamo, it had a putrid smell. That was my first disappointment with Alamo.

I returned the car and was downgraded from the Nissan Versa which had cruise control, electrical mirror adjustment, and remote door locks, to a Toyota Yaris without any of these feature, with no reduction in cost. The cars are by any standard, not in the same feature class. Second disappointment.

I then contacted Alamo by email and my request for a rate adjustment was declined. Instead, I was offered a coupon for a 1-day car rental, with an expiration date - quite likely with the hope that I will either forget about the coupon or it will expire before I use it. Strike three and Alamo is now off of my list.

I will not rent a car from Alamo again.

Too Big to Care!! - Management

Don't use!!
I reserved a car from Alamo/Enterprise on 11/26/11 at the Wichita (ICT) airport for a daily rate of $24.99. When I turned the car in, I was charged $54.99 per day, a total difference of $111. I pointed this discrepancy out to the agent and she agreed that it was a mistake. She told me that I had to pay the higher rate to close out the rental but provided me with copies of the receipt and reservation and gave me the phone number for the regional manager. I protested but paid the higher rate due to my pending flight. Upon my return home, I left a voicemail message with the regional manager and requested that she give me a call. I never received a call back. I emailed customer service and received a series of computer-generated responses. Finally, I turned in a dispute with my American Express card and included the documentation showing the reservation rate versus the billing rate. Alamo/Enterprise never responded to the inquiries made by American Express. The company subsequently blacklisted me and put me on their Do Not Rent list without ever responding over a 3 month period to any of my inquiries. Alamo/Enterprise does not give a rip about its customers and is too big to care.

Weakness:

Air conditioning did malfunction. Dark side and rear windows made driving at night dangerous.

I used this car during 12 days. Its air conditioning did not work well.
Documented initial inspection of car showed that its paint was full of small damages. At final inspection a damage (overlaying initial paint damages) was claimed by the rental. This damage was not there when I left the car for final inspection. My credit card was charged for US$ 129 for damages I did not cause, which were convenient for the rental personnel (watch out for a certain Heidi Rodriguez). I suspect they cheat some clients on their creditcards and charge others cash payments. I will never use this rental again in the future. If you do rent from them, my advise is to take an initial photograph of the car and to be present all the time of the final inspection (also during the time they wash the car).

12yrs old car, didn't feel confortable driving it to see family that lives about 70 miles away from Puerto Vallarta.Car didn't have power windows or locks, rental sticker on vehicle(letting everyone know that we were tourist) car had scratches and dents.

Upon our arrival to Alamo rental place, they told us that our car was not ready, and that we would have to wait two hours,we were very tired after traveling all day and suggested an upgrade since they had other vehicles, but they didn't try to accomodate us, instead they told us that if we want the upgrade we would have to paid for it. We were tired and ready to get to our hotel. Finally they told us that our car had arrived, but it had to be cleaned, when they brought the car to us to go over the check list, we were very dissapointed to see that it was a 1998 Nissan Sentra, after paying almost $400.00 dlls. for the car and rental insurance...we have rented cars in the past and they had never been over two years old...We took the car only because we had already paid for the rental and because we were tired. Big mistake!!

My experience with Alamo car rental was great until I returned the van to the Seattle office in the Hilton Hotel. I had accidentally left my phone (DroidX) on the front passenger seat of the van (switched on) but remembered it before walking more than 100m from the office. Upon returning to the rental office the van had already been moved and my phone was missing – both the Manager of the Alamo Seattle office and I looked everywhere, including the floor/under mats in the back of the van, and the phone could not be found. The manager called the guy that moved the van and he miraculously found it immediately underneath a mat in the back of the van, where I had looked 2 minutes before, and it was switched off! After pointing out that the guy had actually tried to steal my phone I was told to leave the office. Upon returning home I realised that my SD card had been removed from the phone! No matter what I said to the manager she stood by her thief of an employee and would not talk to me – she basically said “call the cops – I don’t care”. The customer duty of care provided by the manager of the Alamo Seattle office was atrocious and unfortunately the attending police officers could not do anything about my stolen SD card which contained personal photos etc. I will never rent from Alamo again and would suggest that if you do, do not rent from the Alamo Seattle office as it seems as if they have a policy of protecting employees which are thieves and do not look after the customer.

On Sat, July 18th my friends and I picked up our rental car from Alamo San Jose in Costa Rica. ONE hour into our trip while driving my brakes went completely out the road started to go downhill and we were approaching a curve. The car started to pick up speed and I pulled the emergency brake and NOTHING happened.

I tried to keep the car steady but was forced onto the other side of the road. We hit a truck that was coming the opposite direction.
We could have all died, there was a cliff that I thought we were going to fly off of if we didn't collide with the truck. The collision was very bad yet the airbags did not go off at all. Alamo left my friends on the mountain for 4 hours while I was rushed to the hospital with a broken wrist.
Today I received in email from alamo stating that the" brakes were in perfect condition and that they overheated due to overuse because we were going downhill." Can someone please explain to me how this makes ANY sense? I did not overuse the brakes I braked to keep a safe distance from me and the car in front of me and aren't you suppose to brake when going downhill to slow down??? and what happened to the emergency brake? There customer service has been very uncooperative and they show no concern for what they did to us.
I am begging you to not use Alamo if you care about your safety and safety of your loved ones.

Seattle is snowed in on 12/20. To get out of the airport I had to rent a car from Alamo. They don't have one way drop off close by to my house so I had to drop off the car back at the airport. Due to the weather conditions I am unable to return the car. When I called up and asked them what the charge for a extra day of rental would be they told me it was $130!!! For a Toyota Prius. I would pay that price only if it was gold plated and they would allow me to take a part of the car. I have rented cars all my life, but this is lower and cheaper than anybody. They are really screwing the consumer over. Is there any action that could be taken against these people. I think they have 3rd rate, low life business practices.

The sad part is the public transportation system of the U.S. is sad. Without these rental cars, it would be hard to travel around in cities on vacations, especially if you want to travel off of the beaten path.

This just sickens me, really. I can't express any more words. I feel robbed, violated. Why should I give my hard earned money to these low lifes?

We made a reservation from Germany and rented a car in Reno. As we planned a camping tour, we needed a stow & go car because we intended to sleep in the back. In order to make sure that we get this special car we phoned Alamo in Reno in advance which car to book and explained that we definitely need this car type and no other. They told us we need a Full Size SUV and promised us that this is no problem. Once being there it turned out that the Full Size SUV hat no stow & go function. Unfortunately, we got into Reno with the last flight, so being back at the Alamo station we found this station already closed and everybody gone. So we had no other chance to take the “unusable” car and stay over night in a Hotel. The next morning we drove back to Alamo. It finally turned out that only the Minivan has this function. So they changed our reservation into a Minivan. As the Minivan was not cleaned up yet, we waited for another 45 minutes to finally find out that this special Minivan had a back seat which was not removable at all!!! I really started to wonder if Alamo personnel ever listen to customers’ needs? We got back to the station again. Finally talked to the Station Manager Denise Bandeo. We were really wondering whether Alamo expected to just accept this and sleep outside the car during our camping tour? Unbelievable.
We even tried to solve the situation and asked the station manager to take out the back seats, so we could use the car. But she refused. Asking her how to solve the problem because we had no other place to sleep, she advised us to check with other rental car companies. Aha??? She even told us that the money will be reimbursed once we are back in Germany. Even though we were not reimbursed on our credit card we took the word of the Station Manager and changed the rental car company. Being back in Germany nothing was reimbursed. After a long discussion and telling the story over and over again to different call centre personnel (who were unfriendly and

Very poor customer policies!

Alamo really surprised us with very strange business ethics! To sum up my experience:
Alamo personnel give customers false information (about reimbursement and about car details).
Alamo cannot handle special requests (we needed a special car and tried to solve this in advance).
Alamo rather takes short term money instead of building a long term relationship with a satisfied customer.

Similar Products Used:

(who were unfriendly and even hang up sometimes) and spending a lot of time and money on these phone calls, we were finally informed that there will be no reimbursement. So we ended up paying 681 $ for one night rental car driving to a Hotel!!!

I am really surprised about how Alamo handles customers in theses cases. It seems that making short term money is more important than building a long term relationship with a satisfied customer. I really wonder who is responsible for such customers policies. We are renting a lot of cars in the US, but this has never happened to us. Compared to all other rental car companies this is the poorest and most unbelievable experience we have ever made. With Hertz this would have never happened.
I really wonder how you stay in business.

By the way this was the original answer:

Dear Customer:

We have tried to book a reservation on the same web site that you booked your car through, and the Full Size SUV does not list stow and go seating as an option. We do not allow customers to remove seats from our vehicles or they will be liable for any damage to the vehicle so the manager at the station was correct in this fact. We apologize if a misunderstanding was given by the manager concerning a refund but it should not have been promised to you. We regret that no compensation will be given in this situation since a vehicle was provided that you chose not to use.

Sincerely
Sharon Cummings
