Price Paid:  $600.00 from Car Stereo Plus, ATL

Year / Model Reviewed:
 DEH-P940MP

Summary:
This deck is on another level. The sound quality is unbelievable. I really love pioneer products, but the sound quality use to be a bit low, thank god they have fix that problem. Although the unit has a ton of function and features, I find it very easy to tune the audio

Strengths:
Everything. This unit does it all.

Weaknesses:
Are Kidding!!! What planet are you from?

Review 3 of 7

Price Paid:  $430.00

Summary:
There is not much to say but that this unit is very cool. I have been a pioneer fan for many years and like my other pioneer head units this head unit has amazed me. I got this radio when it first came out but did not pay the retail price that stores selling for. Look around on the net. But don't pay retail price for this unit. It's an great head unit but is not worth the $900.00 retail price stores are ask for it.

Strengths:
6.5 VOLTS PRE OUT!!! When I put this in I about blew my head off. Had to turn the gains down on my amps. Which is a good thing now the amps run a little cooler. Also 3 sets of RCA's and I just got the graphic download kit of ebay so now I got a bunch of pics on my head unit.

Weaknesses:
THE STUPID STEERING WHEEL REMOTES JUST BLOWS!! Sometimes it will work and somtimes it won't(and no it is not the battery) other people who have the same remote have told me it does not work all the time. The other thing I miss that my other pioneer head units had was ID-logic and RDS. I thought it was cool and I found that same radio stations uses it. RDS stands for radio data system and what it would do is it would tell the song and the person who sings the song on the radio, but I don't think I would use it anymore now that I have XM radio which is great by the way.

Similar Products Used:
pioneer deh-p835r, pioneer deh-p645, JVC cdplayer which was not that good.

Review 4 of 7

Price Paid:  $399.00 from ebay

Year / Model Reviewed:
 2002

Summary:
I came to car audio recently (at 52!) from a 25K home audio 2 channel system (which I had enlessly tweaked for 6 years). I bought decent gear, but erred in the purchase of a Nakamichi head unit. My car stereo sounded like a $20 radio. So, knowing I had some decent (Focal polykevlar) speakers and a decent (JL Audio) amp, I tried a new head unit - the DEH- P930. I cannot tell you what a difference this made. I can actually hear someone singing as if they are sitting on the hood of my car, right in front of me. I can't get a good left channel separation ( the speakers are, after all, only inches from my ears), bu the over-all effect is stunning. I can control my sub output; I can set the high pass limit on my midrange speakers so I cross over correctly to the sub; I can invert phase to the sub ( which controls "boominess"); and I can use a legit 13 band equalizer within any of at least six preset equalization curves ( I chose "natural"). It automatically compensates for the speed at which you drive, so that noise cancellation is not a problem - and you can set at four different levels the amount of this compensation you desire. Of course, if it didn't sound great, none of this would matter, but it does, indeed, sound great! It is lush, full, with great extension at each end. The bass is fantastic. FM reception is much, much better than the Nak unit. It is well made, with a detailed, well explained manual. I have only tried the Nak unit and this one, so I cannot tell you if it is "the end" of all head units. However, I can say that I went from a $2500 system that sounded like $20 to a $2700 system that sounds like a million. I can't stop laughing at how good this sounds. It's just plain old fun, even for a geezer like me! My words of wisdom: You can get cheaper speakers, you can get cheaper cables; but if you scrimp on the head unit, you're dead. If you've never heard the thrill of a real front stereo center stage in a car, I cannot recommend this unit more highly. I would also note that it is much better looking than the pictures of it on the net, and would also note that its blue lighted dials match ( as in match, not sort-of-match) the blue dials in my Volkswagen Passat. I can't comment on the amp section, as I haven't used it (and I don't frankly understand why they bother including it, as almost everyone at this end of the game woud be using a separate amp)

Strengths:
Great flexibility; great sound; well thought out. Can actually position a center stage and adjust delay from each speaker.

Weaknesses:
EEQ is bogus for most settings (Lord please save me from "club" and "hall" and "dome" settings). Wish I could just shut off the annoying, juvenile "movies" and operate the unit without the glitz. Doesn't anyone over 30 ever buy these things?

Review 5 of 7

Price Paid:  $380.00

Summary:
You can''t go wrong with Pioneer and this headunit backs my statement even more. The Sound Field Controls are very cool. Also you don''t forget about the screen savers. When I first got it I was excited about how you could download pic and screensavers, but the hardware you need is not for sale and not to many dealers have anyway so that sucks. The 6.5volts make it worth to pay the extra cost over the 9300. As the first statement the auto eq is not that good.

Strengths:
Sound, pre-out volts, screen savers

Weaknesses:
I replaced my pioneer deh-p835r with this and the one thing I miss is the RDS(radio data system) which would tell you the song name and artist on the radio. Oh well XM here I come
