Audiobahn AW1206T Subwoofers

Audiobahn AW1206T Subwoofers

DESCRIPTION

Audiobahn's high-performance Flame Q subwoofer will put the slamdown on your sound system! A thick aluminum basket acts as a launching platform for bass frequencies projected by the flame-embossed aluminum cone and 4-layer 2-1/2" voice coil. The 2" thick PHAT foam surround and monstrous 7-1/2 pound dual magnet structure control woofer movement for bass that'll shake you.The AW1206T 12" subwoofer features dual 4-ohm voice coils for system versatility — it can be wired for 2-ohm (coils wired in parallel), 8-ohm (coils wired in series), or 4-ohm impedance (each coil wired independently). The unique "flame basket" design has the chrome look of a classic car — but the sound is totally modern. This sub works best in a ported enclosure; it can also be mounted in a sealed box (see "Enclosure Compatibility" under the Detailed Info tab).

Strength:

They look awesome with the deep, fat surround and the chrome flames. In the right box and the right amp they are way more than the average person needs. They have pretty good SQ for a high excursion sub.

Weakness:

Small cone is as much surface area as most 10". Way overrated power handling, probably more like 350w RMS.

I was not very impressed with these when I had them hooked to my Audiobahn "1800 watt" amp. Well, I sold that amp and got a JL 1000/1 and my opinion changed. The cannot handle nearly as much as they're rated for, but they do get LOUD for the price. I noticed that they can handle modulated bass pretty well at all frequencies but distort when the action is fast, like with the kick drum. I would never pay retail for them, you'll get a fair deal on ebay. I like Audiobahn subs but will sell these to try out the Kicker Solo Barics.

I haven't used many other subs in a vehice, but as a pro sound designer, I know what sound good. It's all relative. How do you judge one sub against the other in different environments.

yea i agree, my friend has 2 12"s with the A2300HCT Amp running both of them, and they pound really good, so i went and traded my RF's in for a Flame Compresson, 1,500RMS. and just the one sub is really good.

Strength:

Strong Basket Very tough voice coil Can take one hell of a beating (ive put 1100w rms and it still runs strong)

Weakness:

Not many except for the fact that you could get the aw1208q for a little more and entertain people from a block away.

I'm running this sub at 450w rms in a ported box and it slams like no tomorrow. I have never heard a better sub for 115 dollars. Highly recomended to anyone on a budget that wants their "bang for the buck"
