Price Paid:  $400.00 from online

Year / Model Reviewed:
 PPI pcx4125

Summary:
I don't usually post reviews, but I felt that this review might help people who are newbies to car audio. First off I have been installing car audio professionally for 14 years.I have worked with almost all the brands on the market now and in the past. For those that think this amp is identical to the PPI pc4100 or the PPI pc4800 you are saddly mistaken. PPI has always exceeded their power ratings and if its just power your looking for than this amp is for you. But if you are looking for power and clean signal than look to the older PPI models such as the pc4100, pc4800, pc450 etc.. I did a direct comparrison between the pcx4125 and the pc4800 and although power output was nearly identical sound quality was not. The pcx sounded harsh on the top end and at low volumes it was apparent that the signal to noise ratio was alot lower than the pc4800. The pcx sounded like an average amp not an exceptional one. The pc4800 on the other hand, sounds smooth with virtually no noise at low volumes. Very detailed on the upper frequencies. I guess by todays standards the pcx4125 is just fine, but if you have quality speakers than why not reward them with something cleaner like the old school PPI or Pheonex gold, old school soundstream, old school a/d/s or tru technology if you can afford it. Please don't misunderstand what I am saying this amp is not junk, but if you are looking for the absolute best for your top end speakers than look elsewhere.

Strengths:
Powerful, built like a tank. Good crossover section, very flexible.

Weaknesses:
Not as clean and smooth as the older PPI models. Thd and noise specs are a bit exaggerated.
