$2500.00 Summary:
We have the Alpine NVA-N751A installed as part of a complete electronics
package in the cab of our over-the-road RV. We find it to be extremely
accurate and use it routinely to find addresses around the country. The
choices of fastest route, avoid toll roads and freeways, and last route
or address features make it quick and convenient to use even when we are
going to a destination we know fairly well. We often locate a rest stop or
intersection as a destination just so we see in advance what the highway
ramps and interchange directions are going to be.
Perhaps a bit pricey for average use but a lifesaver for over the road folks like us. I wish the DVD version had been available when we bought ours. I would not by the CD-ROM version again but would definately replace the unit with the newer Alpine DVD unit (for only one disk) even though it is about $500 more expensive. By the way, our price estimate is from memory
and we had a lot of other stuff installed in the truck at the time. Our Alpine installation drives two monitors, one for the passenger, and also controls the CD player and the big Macintosh amplifier. Strengths:
Quick navigation compared to PC based units, retracts into dash when not in
use (which is almost never), three years reliability in a heavy truck and high vibration. Weaknesses:
High cost ($150) of the nine regional CD-ROM's, the promised updates have not been done, have to change a CD when crossing regional borders Similar Products Used:
We use PC based nav from DeLorme and TravRoute. Only thing the Alpine really lacks is good long distance planning so we use the PC's.
