Price Paid:  $22000.00 from Martin Cadillac/Isuz

Year / Model Reviewed:
2003 , Rodeo same truck

Summary:
Rodeo and Passport are almost identical fyi Hello People: I see many fellow owners have had great experiences with the Rodeo and the Passport. I'm one more satisfied and loyal customer. Got a black 1997 V6 4x4 Rodeo with 68,000 miles on it for my 16th birthday two years ago. Since then, I've driven it to canada during summer vacations, and the LA mountains for winter vacations, and every trip I took was in my Rodeo along with my 80 mile commute to school every day. I ended up putting just over 82,000 miles on it and in December, it had just over 150,000 miles on it! The Rodeo performed great despite some of the hard driving I put it through. Very easy to work on when it needed oil changes, new spark plugs, and so on. Very cheap to keep running and had a very good style to it. After 150,000 miles it the odometer, I figured it was bound to start having some expensive problems so I sold it to the dealer for $1,200 and got a 2003 black Rodeo 2wd with leather package, sport package and a few extras. 10 year, 100,000 mile warranty which I dont think I'll ever be needing :-) Fully loaded Rodeo for just over 22 grand! Isuzu gives great service and has kept me thoroughly happy. They have a customer for as long as they are selling SUVs. I now have 7,200 miles on my new one and it is such an outrageous vehicle. It really needs to be on more peoples' shopping lists. Very strong vehicle. I also wanted to add that I havent had any oil problems with either vehicle and I think the cause of some of these oil problems that people are having is because they arent changing their oil often and letting their engine wear away at itself. I belong to many Isuzu groups, where there are many Passport owners too, and I havent encountered anyone who has ever had an oil problem which tells me the people who have problems with this vehicle are neglecting it. Big no no. My mom has a Dodge Durango now and it is the biggest piece of sh!t. Fair warning to everyone. Stay away from the whole Chrysler corp. Enjoy The Vehicle!

Strengths:
Both Rodeos Ive owned are great. Powerful--goes without saying Fun to drive Goes anywhere off road Easy to work on Cheap to maintain Looks like a million bucks when dirty and even better clean

Year / Model Reviewed:
2002 Passport

Summary:
Don't buy this SUV. I have had nothing but trouble with this car. It has only 22,000 miles and I have had to replace the front brakes three times. I needed new rotors and had a transmission leak. I have had to have my ABS sensor light fixed two times. And new tires already.

Review 3 of 142

Price Paid:  $19500.00 from Used car dealer

Year / Model Reviewed:
2002 Passport 4x4 LX

Summary:
Many people have posted on this site about the clunking noise that they hear under their car. We have recentlt started experiencing this problem. To me it sounds like it is toward the back. To my husband, it sounds like it is in the front, right under the driver seat or in the wheel well. If anyone knows what this could be, please write to me and let me know! P.S. We seem to hear the noise more often while we are going down a hill or coasting.

Strengths:
Style, 4x4 works well, good in bad weather.

Weaknesses:
Gas hog, but aren't most SUV's?

Price Paid:  $19995.00 from Nebraska

Year / Model Reviewed:
2002 Honda Passport LX 4WD

Summary:
A nice looking SUV with great performance in the mountains. The honeymoon was over in May 2004 when the check engine light started to flash. Then the Passport started guzzling oil. Two times over the summer the oil light came on, and there was not a drop of oil when the level was checked. Currently consuming about one - three quarts a month. NO leaks, or blue exhaust. Honda technicians indicated also that the upshift light comes on way to early. If you are in 4th gear at 35 mph, the upshift indicator flashes. 5th gear in the city at 35 mph??? As of November 2004 the car has been in the shop 12 times. Numerous things replaced: O2 sensors, engine wiring harness, more things I can't remember. At 10 times, we said enough is enough - we don't want the hassle anymore. At 1800 RPM, the car will pull back slightly, and continue accelerating until 2000 RPM the light will make it's appearance. Sometimes it will stay on solid for a few days, then go off for a couple of days, then flash for a couple days, and stay off for a few days. In early November the Honda Engineer made a special trip to look at the Passport, and cleaned up the engine really nice and thought the problem may have been fixed. We got the car back Friday November 12th, and guess what?? The check engine light turned back on Thursday November 18th. The mileage in May was 28000, and is now 35000. We are patiently waiting a verdict from Honda corp as how they intend to get us out of this lemon. I don't have very positive feelings about a positive resolution. At last word, the thought was to replace the engine, so we could trade it in for a real Honda. What a huge financial loss!!!! In my humble opinion, the decision should be mine, and I don't want the Passport anymore. I would take a CRV or Subaru Outback in a heartbeat. Of course, Honda Corp would have to offer me a very sweet deal - I have been a Honda fanatic for years, and I don't think they want to lose me as a future customer. They need to write this one off as a loss on their rolls, and stand behind their product to make the situation right. I was planning on driving this car for many years to come. In other words, a new car wasn't in my future - and this one isn't even paid off yet!I simply don't feel safe driving my family in this car with what could be a very serious engine problem. Has anybody had any luck dealing on a lemon? How about state or lawyer based arbitration? We are looking into our options......

Strengths:
Hmmm......

Weaknesses:
ABS went out early on Check Engine light Where is the oil? What gas mileage?

Review 5 of 142

Price Paid:  $25500.00 from ed morse

Year / Model Reviewed:
2001 passport

Summary:
America stay away from this tin. I have had this vehicle since 11/01/01 and have had nothing but problems. First of all this is definitely not a HONDA...and shame on Honda for ever putting this s*** on their lots. What I purchased was an over priced vibrator! I had problems with it pulling to the right on the highway, the steering wheel vibrating, at highway speeds the whole car vibrates. The dealer has made several attempts to correct the problem by balancing the tires, alligning the vehicle, installing new tires, what ever it has not happened. Their latest remark was that it was a charastic of this vehicle,WHAT! If I recall correctly I never heard the sales person telling about this feature. I then took the vehicle to another dealer, Honda, boy did they do a job on it. They bashed the other dealer saying they should of never used those tires, they called tech line to get PROFESSIONAL assistance since they could not fix it. Next drama, at 10,000 miles the whole computer on the vehicle went. I was in the middle of rush hour traffic, 75 mph plus, the car died, I was hitting the gas and nothing... Long story short...I am now persueing the lemon law.

Strengths:
well looks can be decieving... cheap, cheap, cheap and cheap...

Weaknesses:
too many to mention.
