Strength:

Size, comfort, ammenities, SNOW DRIVING!
Near Zero maintenance costs at 100,000 mi. Best car I've ever owned.

Weakness:

Dealer maintenance fees. They wanted 1850.00$ to replace the air conditioning system which is critical in the Mojave desert. Some scrupulous diagnostics on my part identified the problem as a 6.00$ yes, six dollar, relay. Problem solved.

Best car ever. I drive it up and down the the mountains to Big Bear at 7000 ft. elevation from the Mojave desert. The vehicle is unstoppable in the snow. Drove up the mountain last year in the middle of the worst snowstorm in 40 years, through 3 plus ft. snow drifts, and for the next two months through snow and ice with complete impunity.

Similar Products Used:

I drove through every inch of these mountains for 4 years as a delivery driver using a Dodge Durango, Toyota Highlander, Jeep Grand Cherokee, 4wd Ford econoline, and Toyota 4 runner. The Pilot is the best of all by far.

Strength:

handles well, large cargo space, dependability and reliability, 4 wheel drive works great in bad weather,

Weakness:

this model year does not have curtain airbags, road noise

this is only vehicle i have bought new that i never took in for warranty work (I am a stickler for getting this back to dealer if ANY thing wrong no matter how trivial), the road noise is typical for Hondas which Toyota has learned to master but the tradeoff is far better road feel and handling over Toyota; the gas mileage is about the same as my wife's Subaru outback which is far smaller but is AWD all the time; the gas mileage was far better when we had 100% gas without ethanol; this is highly functional, well built vehicle that accomplishes its goal nicely

Strength:

Roomy, good for families

Weakness:

Poor build quality. Poor fuel economy. Rough feel while driving.

Honda seems to have attempted to perfect the process of cost cutting. Unfortunately the quality of the car has suffered greatly. A lot of rattles, very rough road ride. If you tap on various parts of the cars, like the mirrors, they are loose and rattle.

The front rotors needed to be turned after 17k miles and the dealer would not cover it. It's my wife's car and she is an easy driver.

The dealers have extremely poor customer service. I can not get a service rep on the phone to make an appointment for warranty work.

Functionally this car is great for us. As it is now I will trade it in when it gets to 60-70k. It looks Honda's reputation for quality is not enduring.

Strength:

Lots of power, nice features even at the base model level

Weakness:

Blind spots in the side windshield areas
Third seat can be difficult to access, but it is an SUV, not a van

For a base model, this car has a lot of options, which is nice if you don't necessarily need all the bells and whistles. The back seat is roomy and moves back and forwards for more leg room, which is great. Lots of storage in back if the third seat is folded down.

The Pilot handles great and drives like a dream, which is what we were hoping since we weren't ready for a minivan. However, because we have three kids, we're finding the third seat is not as practical as we'd hoped - our kids are all under 5, so getting in and out and installing car seats in the back can be a chore. Also, I'm rather short so getting in and out of the vehicle, especially the far back to strap little ones in, can be difficult.

Some other things that I wasn't too happy with about the Pilot were the major blind spots on the corner posts - where the windshield meets the passenger and driver doors - which seems bigger than it should be. Also, the gear shift knob might take some getting used to, especially when downshifting into lower gears.

One nit-picky thing that bugs me - I wish the clock would come on when you push the button when the ignition is off. Not sure if it does on newer models, but it did on my 97 Accord and this was a great quickie feature when you're in a hurry.

Other than that, not many complaints except it's just not practical for our family of five, so we're trading it in soon for an Odyssey.

Strength:

POWER! WOW! 244hp is a TON for a grocery getter like this, it is truly fun to drive and passing power is fully dependable. Seats are comfortable, AC is good, and cargo room is GREAT! I have been saved by the traction control more than once, as I am not the best driver in the world. rear cargo area is bigger than 4Runner and ride quality is the best I have driven for the $$$

Weakness:

Paint is cheap, will peel and chip with ease, Stero sound is a little lacking with the LX package, but thats what is expected. I am a little worried with the transmission hoses being right under the car. the defrost sucks and AC is loud. All very good or desirable defects in a car at this price. I just hope it has Honda dependability.

This vehicle is AWESOME! Do not listen to gas mileage claims, the sticker plainly says that it gets 17-24, and that is exactly what it gets. If people are getting less, it is because they are constantly on the accelerator. I have gotten both 17, and 24. Car is comfy, roomier than 4Runner, and more user friendly than most SUV's Storage is the best with a big console and cupholders galore. Rear fold down seat is great and comfortable even for adults, unlike tahoe and durago which are like sitting on the floor.

I had my Honda Pilot for 6 months when someone ran a redlight and T-boned us in my daughter's passenger door panel, knocking us into oncoming traffic. If it were not for the door beam and side curtain airbags, my daughter could have been killed or more seriously injured. She walked away with only bumps and bruises. I loved everything about the Pilot before the wreck; and since it is probably totaled, I will buy another Honda Pilot ASAP.

Thought Honda meant reliability, but just until the warranty expired

Weakness:

Engines that dies just after the warranty expires. The service rep at Harmony Honda, Kelowna, claims to have many 3.5l engines with over 350,000 kms on then, no problems. I can't discuss then, as I only know my Pilot ownership, religious maintenance & getting blown off by Honda Customer Service. Great communications job George
My last Honda

Bought it new & has been dealer maintained ever since. Use it as daily transportation & to haul an ATV around. Have posted previously how happy I was with the Pilot. The extended warranty hadn't expired time wise, but was slightly over in mileage when engine noises started..banging. Long story short..collasped piston requiring a new bottom end. I called Honda customer service 1.888.946.6329 ext 3383, George. I faxed off all my maintenance receipts since new...and never heard back from Honda, despite leaving numerous voice mails. $3800 repair bill
