from boostcaraudio.com Year / Model Reviewed: 2003 Focal 690CA Summary: I've had these speakers for over 6 months. Before choosing what I wanted for my rear speakers, I researched for months. site after site, store after store, rep after rep, model after model. Focal hadn't yet hit any physical stores in my area but I heard nothing negative about them. No friends had them and I never listened to them before purchase, but I gambled. The gamble paid off. Not only did I get an amazing pair of speakers for an unbelievable price, I have never heard anything with such authority and power. I'd listened to Infinity Kappa 4x6s for a while, they just didn't do it. They smoked and bottomed out on mid-bass if you fed them too much power.
When I got these, I took time to break them in just right. for the first month all I had was deck power from a Kenwood Excelon. Now they're powered by an Audiobahn amp sending 75w RMS to each speaker and led by an Alpine HU. The sound is unmatched. Clean highs, EXCELLENT mid-bass, and no so little distortion i can't even tell it's there. (Honestly, only distortion I hear is the rattle of the rear deck it's on and the vent b/c the speaker rattled one of the pop rivets loose!). An unfortunate not however is I have managed to make these bottom out if sent frequencies under 100Hz. Too much power can do it too.
In addition to these speakers, for the best result, I put them in 6x9 sealed boxes. I highly recommend boxes for the best response and cancelled distortion. Strengths: mid-bass/Bass
sharp highs
low-to-no distortion Weaknesses: Can bottom out with too much amp power or too low of a frequency Similar Products Used: Polk, Infinity, MB Quart, Sony(not highly recommended)
