Review 1 of 6

Price Paid:  $370.00

Year / Model Reviewed:
 Nov-01 CX64''s 7" componet set

Summary:
All i can say is whoooooaaaaaa!! These componets are at the top with other high end gear. I demoed the ADS 3 series, Focal Utopias, Dynaudio, Illusion Audio. I recently just finished Kick panels and this set has incredible power handling, detail and so natural sounding.

Strengths:
incredible midbass/midrange section, well built, including xover, silk dome tweeter is loud but nor harsh. I have the setting in the middle but am still tweaking. great power handling.

Weaknesses:
none so far!!

Similar Products Used:
Kicker, Kenwood, Infinity Kappa

Review 2 of 6

Price Paid:  $300.00

Year / Model Reviewed:
 1999

Summary:
The CX62 Midbass/Midrange Driver's in this set are simply awesome. If midbass is what you need, you'll want to check these out.

Strengths:
Produced the most midbass of any speaker I've ever used.

Weaknesses:
Tweeters required some serious equalizing in the 1-4kHz range to eliminate spitting. Crossover point of 900 Hz on the X2 Crossover too low?

Review 3 of 6

Price Paid:  $275.00

Year / Model Reviewed:
 1991 Ford Mustang LX

Summary:
I bought my Chameleons off of Ebay for $275 shipped. They are the 6.5" 2 ohm editions, with the CX62 midbass drivers and NX30 tweeters. The crossovers are set with no tweeter attenuation, although you can change this to -3dB or -6dB very easily on the crossovers that are included. The midbasses I had to have custom door pods fabricated for, because they are so freakin huge, but that was well worth it. Tweeters are dash mounted. The sound is nothing short of incredible. They are lowpassed at 100Hz on a 12dB slope (which I will change to ~85Hz on a 24dB slope once I can afford), and the midbass is very tight and precise. The tweeters sound fantastic - don't leave your ears tired or sore like MBQ's and other hard domes. I'm thoroughly impressed with these, and paired with my IDQ 12's, I would never buy anything but ID again.

Strengths:
Mounting options - coaxial or regular component
2 ohm availability for more power from your amp
Tight, punchy, accurate midbass
Awesome tweeters - VERY loud, but smooth and don't shriek at you
Overall awesome sound

Weaknesses:
Slightly lacking in the ~2.5KHz range, but not bad. A set of 3" or 4" mids would help a lot (a 3 way package with these would be AWESOME).
Midbasses are HUGE, had to have custom pods built to mount them (2.8" depth, and a huge magnet on the back)

Similar Products Used:
Nothing SIMILAR used, these simply blow away all the other crap I've owned.

Review 4 of 6

Year / Model Reviewed:
 CX62/99'(2-OHM)

Summary:
I paid less than $300 for a pair. One of the best investments I have ever made in car stereo. These components deliver awesome sound in every aspect. The midbass is especially strong and punchy. I am running my pair with an A/D/S 430X amplifier. The result is a very musical and realistic soundstage. I chose the Chameleons over A/D/S, MB Quart, and Focal sets because they sound just as clear, detailed, and are less expensive ($150-$300 less!). I am going to replace my rear Boston 6x9's with a pair of CX54s in the near future. I also want to feed them some more power (100Watts RMS), to see them reach greater musical heights. I highly recommend the Image Dynamics Chameleons to car enthusiast out there. Just remember to power them with a QUALITY amp. Give them a close listen cause I'm sure you will be impressed too!

Strengths:
Ability to play loud without ear fatigue.
Clear mids and highs, natural sound
Impressive MIDBASS

Weaknesses:
Can't think of any...

Similar Products Used:
Can compete with A/D/S, MB Quart, & Focal components

Review 5 of 6

Year / Model Reviewed:
 '99

Summary:
Well, of course they blow away my factory speakers! I have the 2 ohm 6.5" chameleon component set. I am sending each side 150 watts....and the speakers sing with this power. I have mine mounted in the doors coaxially. It's nice to get the sound of seperates without the hassle of finding a place for the tweeter (my car had no stock tweeters). I paid 300 dollars for mine, and I believe that they can compete with the more expensive boston, quart, diamond, and focal sets. Give these a listen if you want a smooth but defined sound.

Strengths:
Loud, Clean, Musical

Weaknesses:
Difficult to mount due to 3" depth

Similar Products Used:
Factory Speakers
