Review 2 of 10

Price Paid:  $90.00 from Crutchfield

Summary:
I bought 2-10" JBL GTOs,Clarion 200watt mono amp,and a sealed box with my first credit card. What a mistake (not the stereo, the credit card!)I was completly sold on JBL.I had them in a '88 TransAm and the bass was so clean and tight.I ended up putting them behind the seats of my Fiero in fiberglass boxes built in the firewall. It never sounded as good as the T/A because they didn't have much air space and I eventually blew them. They got stolen along with my amp and CD player. So they got some blown 10's HAHA.I highly recomend anything JBL.My old JL Audio 12's didn't come close to JBL's.

Strengths:
Very tough. Play loud with little power. Drop REAL low.

Weaknesses:
Don't do well in very small boxes.

Review 3 of 10

Price Paid:  $149.00 from Audio Vibe

Year / Model Reviewed:
 2002 GT1041

Summary:
I had a 8" Bazooka in the trunk of my car, but I wasn't satisfied with the spl and low extension of the bass inside my car. I ended up selling it and buying a sealed box that holds two 10's in it, and has about .75 cu ft per driver inside. I had to get a set of subs to put in it, and since I already have Jbl front and rear speakers, I figured It'd be cool to have the subs to match up to them. I decided on the GTO series 10's because they're an excellent price, very accurate, very deep, and hit hard. They are also extremely smooth too. My only problem is, I've got a little Clarion amp putting 75watts rms into each of them, so they basically don't even move unless I crank the gain up to half or more, and the sub out on my deck to +4 to +6. I can't wait to see what the subs can do after being broken in, and especially after I put a bigger amp on them. So far, I'm extremely impressed with the GT1041's, in every way. I found that with some types of music, they sound louder than with others, and that the mid-bass response isn't as powerful sounding as the lows (below 40hz). One song that sounds phenominal on these subs is the moby remix of "Spin Spin Sugah" and "6 Underground". These subs kick hard on anything I throw at them, and I'd reccomend them to anybody who wants entry level competition grade subs for a good price. BTW, from what I've experienced from these subs so far, there's nothing entry level about them...

Strengths:
Hit hard, yet do so with control and a smooth roll off. Never sound overly boomy, very accurate (well, as accurate as you can get from a trunk). Mad power handling, great spl, and are affordably priced.

Weaknesses:
Need a big amp to drive them properly, but other than that, nothing else at all. They're Jbl's, they don't have weaknesses! lol!

Similar Products Used:
MTX Black Gold: killer sound, but killer expensive, MTX Blue Thunder: great value, but lack the slam of the GTO's, Rockford Fosgate Punch series: Not as powerful sounding as the Jbl's, JL Audio: Nothi

Review 4 of 10

Price Paid:  $90.00 from crutchfield

Year / Model Reviewed:
 newer JBL GT1041

Summary:
When I bought these, i didn''t even have a car. i bought 1 of these 10''s and a single sub bandpass box. i was knocking off pictures on the otherside of the house. My mom got pissed and finally bought me a car. i had 2 of them in my sunbird and my taillight popped off on day going down the road. i was pushing them with a pheonix gold 1400watt amp and they never ever popped or snapped. tough subs that sound damn near perfect

Strengths:
STRONG. sound awesome and hit hella-low. my 2 tens hit 149.4dB.

Weaknesses:
you really gotta have the right size sealed box to make these not sound like crap at high power levels

Similar Products Used:
MTX, SONY, KENWOOD, DIGITAL DESIGNS

Review 5 of 10

Price Paid:  $100.00

Year / Model Reviewed:
 GT1041

Summary:
These are very nice speakers for the money I paid. I bought them brand new 2 years ago to add a little bass to my car and got more than I bargained for. These things thump like 12's. I have them in a sealed box and my trunk rattles bad.

Strengths:
Can take just about what ever you can dish out, power wise. I have 2 hooked up to a 700 watt amp in series, I'll probably change to parallel (reducing the impedance "seen" by the amp)to see if they can give me even more bass.

Weaknesses:
A bit "bassy" at upper extreme limit of subs, sometimes inaccurate bass above this limit.

Similar Products Used:
vegas, mtx, jl in friends cars
For the price can't be beat, but if you want to compete dish out the cash for spl subs.
