Price Paid:  $150.00 from ebay brand new

Year / Model Reviewed:
2003 diamond audio macdaddy 12.4

Summary:
wow, i never thought this sub would ever be this loud and accurate. i was worried that one wouldnt be enough, moving from 2 type R 12's, but I couldnt imagine it being any louder without hurting my ears. its just as loud if not louder then the R's and im running one less sub and 200watts less rms. I am running it off a kenwood KAC-9102D amp with 800w rms in a spec ported box, and it doesnt even look like its working hard at all yet it shakes everything in my whole car, it looks great, and the sound quality is amazing

Strengths:
pounds hard. precise, even in a ported box, handles 200watts rms above recomended rms level but it seems like it could take even more. looks amazing as well

Weaknesses:
wanted two but could only find one and they have been replaced by the newer TDX and now the D9 line, so its very difficult to find these subs anymore

Similar Products Used:
bazooka(crap), lighting audio(crap), alpine type r(not even close)

Review 2 of 8

Price Paid:  $250.00 from local dealer

Year / Model Reviewed:
2003 Mackdaddy MD12.4

Summary:
I wanted to run one high-powered 12 inch sub in my car, to replace two excellent sounding but heavy Eclipse Aluminum 12's. The Eclipses' in thier 2 cu. ft. MDF box lowered the rear of my Accord V6 2 inches. I picked up a Mackdaddy 12 on clearance from the local dealer, and tried running it in a spec .8 cu. foot sealed box loosely filled with fiberfill, and crossed over at about 70 hertz with a 24db slope. After proper break in, I started to crank the music up. The woofer sounded incredibly accurate, better than any other sub I've heard. But the woofer COULD NOT PLAY LOW BASS, even off of regular Pop and R and B tracks. The woofer would "bog" terribly, and sounded like an eight incher. Frustrated, I built a spec 1.25 cu. foot ported box. The low bass response was much better, and had substantially more output (3 db more per the manual). With the ported box, the woofer plays low bass a lot better, and still has pretty good accuracy despite the fact that it is ported. The woofer is almost as loud as the two Eclipse 12's I used to run. I am feeding the sub 850-900 watts from a bridged Rockford Fosgate Power 851s.

Strengths:
Very good sound quality and output when installed in a spec ported box. Excellent build quality, reasonable clearance price. Able to easily handle much more power than rated at. Small box requirements, and the flexiblity to be installed either ported or sealed.

Weaknesses:
Inability to play low bass notes when installed in a spec .8 cu. foot box. A 12 inch sub should be able to play some low bass. Two star rating for sealed box installation.

Price Paid:  $0.00 from Audio Tunes

Year / Model Reviewed:
2001 MacDaddy

Summary:
2 12"svc4 Mac's 1.25 sealed box 2 Avionixx 800.2 1 for each sub 800w each I beleave this is the best SQL sub for the money! The bass aint to punchy nor boomy ethier.... It hits every notes clean and perfectly. Now in a sealed box with 800w each these suxer pounds like a mofo.... But even at extream loud volume the sub still sounds very clean... Also the magnet looks really nice so this would be a great sub to invert to show it off...!

Strengths:
Great SQ no matter how loud!! Takes 800w and beggs for more!! Gets very loud even in a sealed box!! Great looking sub!!

Weaknesses:
Needs lots of power to get it going in sealed box.. SQ ave in vented boxes!!
