Price Paid:  $150.00 from from a friend

Year / Model Reviewed:
2000 2 12's

Summary:
These are for sure the best subs for the $. They sound perfect in my box with the plex-glass and I didn't have to spend too much for the whole setup. Plus they look baaaad through plexy-glass with my neon lights.

Strengths:
Bass sounds great! Cheap. Don't need to many watts to push. I've got a 500watt amp pushing them in a suburban 1500 and the bass is sweet. You don't have to worry about jackers cause they keep a low profile and noone else hears it.

Weaknesses:
They can get distorted form time to time, when I really crank up the bass, but the soundwaves really move in an suv. Fo Sho!

Price Paid:  $25.00 from Fry's Electronics

Year / Model Reviewed:
2003 MTX 12" 200wrms subs

Summary:
These were my first subs and i had alot of fun with them, being only 25 bucks per sub i didnt have much to lose. I ran them with a 800w Kenwood amp, which led to the speakers demise when i tried a bit to hard to impress a friend. I used a very large box (about 6 cubic feet) but both subs were in the same box. They hit fairly hard but nothin special.

Strengths:
Nice hit as long as you keep the volume down. Look decent

Weaknesses:
No serious complaints, but i was disappointed that you could BARELY hear these things outside my car. Horrible distortion at higher dbs's.

Price Paid:  $100.00 from @ Circuit City

Year / Model Reviewed:
2001 Thunder 4000 12"s

Summary:
This was my second stereo in my car and it was a big upgrade from my pioneer 10"s. The MTX subs sounded good in my sealed box but when i tried a bandpass they distorted. Overall I was saticefied and they lasted 3 years with the abuse i gave them till the voice coils fried. When they blew i was only running 150 watts to each.

Strengths:
At retail they are cheaper than other subs that arent nearly as loud. I've had an alpine v12, an 800 watt pyle(garbage), and a kenwood 800watt amp running to them and they lasted 3 years. They should have blown with the alpine v12 being 300x2.

Weaknesses:
They are made of foam and compressed paper so the will dry rott. Didn't sound good in a bandpass box

Similar Products Used:
pioneer 10"s kenwood 12"s

Price Paid:  $40.00 from ebay

Year / Model Reviewed:
 2000? mtx4000 10" 8ohm

Summary:
If you are looking for a relatively cheap, reliable choice for a sub, look no further. I 2x10"running in a sealed powerwedge style sub box at about .75ft2 each. Although I am only running about 125 watts (at 12v, probably more like 150-170 full out) through a dedicated sub amp, they provide substancial low end. These are the 8ohm models, wired in parallel for a 4 ohm load. I was thinking of replacing them with the 4 ohm to create a 2ohm load (and more power), but it is not really necessary. They already are capable of keeping up with my jbl separates up front, as well as providing the nice vibro-massage effect at high volumes. BTW, if you think these subs (or most subs) are weak, flopping around and not generating enough bass, make sure your box is well sealed and properly tuned. After sealing my box with silicone (making sure it was fully cured, otherwise fumes can eat away at the foam surrounds!), the difference was amazing! Seal it, fill about 50% with acoustic stuffing (I used fiberfill) use foam weatherstripping to seal the woofers in, and pound away!

Strengths:
1. Cheap ($40 plus shipping for both on ebay) 2. don't need alot of amp power to perform well 3. Better than expected sound quality for the price

Weaknesses:
don't go as low as some (mtx says 39hz, but that is probably +/-3db, unlike alot that say much lower, but at -10db) Power handling (only 200rms, but unless you have an upgraded alternator, good luck pushing much more)

Similar Products Used:
polk c4 isobaric (ok, and very efficient)

 00' Thunder4000 12" X 2

Summary:
Son of a gun. Now thats some serious bass. If you want a kick ass system, but dont wasnt to spend too musch on hard hitting subs...MTX Thunder4000 12 X 2 is your answer. I put this in my 2001 Convertible Mustang GT, they beat the sh*t out of my friends Sony Xplod 12" X 2. MTX makes the best subs ever. I upgraded my subs to the MTX Thunder6000 12" X 2, I don't want to say too much about these, because if you get them, Its definetly worth it. The 6000 12" subs will pound louder than any other sub on the street.

Strengths:
MTX Thunder4000 12" X 2 pounded louder than the Sony Xplod 12" x 2. Excellent price for excellent beat in any car.

Weaknesses:
NONE!!! Because MTX ROCKS!!!!!

Similar Products Used:
MTX Thunder6000 12" x 2, and DHD Power Cruiser 10" subs x2. Also the MTX RFL152, which will break you windows, along with your neck because you'll have to turn your head to see if your trunk is still
