from Stereo King Year / Model Reviewed: 2003 TS-W12PRS Summary: I'll start off by saying that I'm not a Pioneer fan. With that out of the way, this sub is spectacular. My subwoofer experience has run the gauntlet from an old MTX Road Thunder to the unbelievably expensive Focal Utopia 11" sub. I noticed that Pioneer was making a "comeback" with a new version of the ODR equipment. Having used the ODR speakers before I knew of their quality. I thought I might look at the PRS 12". What struck me first was the woofer's sensitivity (92dB) and then the 4-Ohm DVC. I had fabed up a fiberglass enclosure for the passenger's foot-well of my Neon. I made it just a hair under 1 cubic foot. This sub’s signal was fed from an Alpine 7909 and an Xtant X603. I accompanied the sub with a pair of USD Audio Waveguides and 6” USD midrange speakers. After a burn in period I was amazed at the "clarity" that revealed the innuendos of the music that I had missed even with the vented utopia series subwoofers. One of my favorite torture songs for subs is the 1812 overture. After hearing the orchestra members’ whispers, coughs, and equipment changes that I had never heard before, I went for my IASCA CD. I was not disappointed. For my hour of listening, I was thrilled to be at the live performances that I listened to.
I want to say that this sub is perfect. I’ll stop just short of that. For what reason? I don’t know perhaps to let another subwoofer try to challenge it. Strengths: -Price!!! A nearley perfect subwoofer for $215!
-Outstanding SQ ability
-Great looks Weaknesses: There's no other competition in it's price range. I can't compare it to anything else darn it! Similar Products Used: Focal Utopia 11"
Illusion Audio ND-12"
