2005 Honda Accord Hybrid Summary:
As Consumer Guides Best Car, I expected more. The Accord Hybrid is an over priced, less than real hybrid. Like any car the hybrid get's poorer mileage in real life than according to Transport Canada. Unfortunately many reviewers don't check it out. I was looking for a performance car with good mileage. I looked at Mazda 6, Nissan Altima, Mustang, Camery and Accord V6 and Hybrid. I selected the Accord based on reviews and trade value given to my 2000 Nissan Maxima. The hybrid has an average mileage only and to date with 11 000 kms , I range from 8.5 l/100km to 9.5 L / 100 km. In comparison my 2000 Pontiac Montana get about 11 L / 100 km. I am suppose to be getting better mileage than a 4 cyl but I have friends whoget an extra 100 kms per tanbk full. The dealership basically told me to slow down. The hybrid drive only charges that bater to 2/3 full 90% of the time, it only charges when slowing down. If the A/C is on, the auto stop doesn't always work. The electric engine rarely helps acceration unless you are taking of hard thus increasing you consumption. Don't buy this car for mileage adn black tape over the mileage indicator or it will drive you crazy. I am 5 months into a 4 year lease adn can't wait till it's old enought to get out. If you drive this car at 80 km on flat surface you will get the 48 mpg promised. Stop, start drive through town and your in trouble. Honda says the car has rims to reduce drag,and added a fiberglass hood to reduce weight. The engine also shuts down 3 cyl. when the power isn't need. If Honda lost the electric, weight of the battery and just offered the ligher V6 with the 3 cyl shut down, mileage would be about the same, based on how much the hybrid system accually kicks in. Strengths:
fast, handles well in corners, looks sharpe and is unique. Weaknesses:
mileage, hard to get seats ajusted to comfort, seats are short for longer legs, unique radio receiver has poor signal, doesn't have instant mileage gage, no sun roof available. Similar Products Used:
