Price Paid:  $13000.00 from local dealership

Year / Model Reviewed:
1998 Chrysler Concorde

Summary:
I purchased my Chrysler in 2002 from a local dealership. It drove fine for the first year. I began having trouble with the heating and cooling system, then the cd/radio player died, both passenger and driver side windows went off track and had to be replaced. I paid $750 to replace converters. In 2005 at 75,000 miles I had to pay $6800 to replace the motor. Well five months later the transmission began to give me trouble so I parked it for a year. Well in June of this year I replaced the transmission and 2 months later I wrecked it in a three car pile up. The car was finally running excellent with it's new Jasper motor before the accident. The car is now sitting in my backyard and I will try to sell the motor just to get a few bucks back. It has less than 20,000 miles on the new motor. Wish me good luck!! Nobody could give me another one of these cars.

Strengths:
nice looking car at purchase and very spacious.

Weaknesses:
This space isn't big enough for the weaknesses.

Summary:
I have a 1996 Chrysler Concorde, had it for 3yrs. Have replaced everthing except motor, transmission, and alternator. I have put over $8,500 in it. The latest was fuel pump and then was stranded twice in past 2 weeks. Fuel pump burned out. I like my car but have 7 months to pay it off. No more Chryslers for me. Sad to say. Stranded to much.

Review 3 of 95

Price Paid:  $4000.00 from private sale

Year / Model Reviewed:
1996 Concorde LXi

Summary:
After reading a lot of reviews on here, I'm glad I managed to get a '96. It seems most problems are pre-'94 or post-'98. Also, I'm glad I got the 3.5 as there were a lot of problems with the 2.7. I see a lot of issues with the speed sensors, yes they are annoying, but did you or did you not make it back in second gear? Thank you Chrysler for allowing this vehicle to operate in limp-in mode. I have seen the records from the previous owner, and this car has been good. Maybe I'm skewed as I'm a mechanic, but a lot of the problems people complain about with this car are minor (aside from engines and transmissions). A/C - don't count on it ever. Lets face it, the air in your car has to put up with a lot of crap, it's amazing that it ever works at all. So far mine is good. As for door rubbers, headlamp bezels, cup holders etc.. I agree, bad designs. But when people complain about having to get things repaired 2 or 3 times, you better look for a new mechanic. Back to my car, I've replaced inner and outer tie rods (these cars are famous for it), and I'm holding out on replacing the rack bushings so far. I find the mileage is kinda' heavy (3.5 Litre Engine). I love the interior space, the ride and the ameneties, I don't know how I could live without the features now that I've driven this car. You'll see from my list I've had a lot of Chryslers, and I've not yet had to walk home or push them. As a mechanic, I see a LOT of vehicles in for repairs, and you can tell which are the lemons, let me say that Chryslers don't come in nearly as often as any other vehicles.

Strengths:
Power Comfort Features

Weaknesses:
Front End Wears Out too quickly

Price Paid:  $13500.00 from Repossess Autos, Arl

Year / Model Reviewed:
1999 Chrysler Concorde Lx

Summary:
I bought the car for about 50% of new price in 2001, with 89,000 miles on it. It seemed well maintained. I found it ran well, but the trans seemed weak so I had it checked and later rebuilt - under the 36,000 extended warranty fortunately at 100,000 miles. At 110K miles it developed a tick, so lifters were also replaced under the warranty. At 150,000 miles I noticed timing chain noises, Chrysler recommends replace at 100K, so I bit the bullet and paid $1,700 for the dealer to replace 3 chains and several tensioners. Car now has 175,000 miles, way over the designed life of 125,000 and since I'd added dual-exhause and X-Pipe, it still screams when needed with about 240 BHP. At this time I do notice mpg going down a bit, catalytic converters are going out, that is another $750, and Rack and Pinion is getting sloppy, another $1,000, but other than that the car is pristine outside and inside. I send my old rear sway-bar to a hot-rod shop in Oregon, then made a 200% stiffer one for me, $125, that really made handling great and I recommend it. I also replaced all struts with performance, KYB in front and Chrysler Sport in rear, and aftermarket springs in front, .020 thicker coils. It's a smooth and quiet car, it has the Luxuary Package added, but I really wish I had the larger front Rotors like on the LXi, I will look in wrecking yards to get the towers and put them on one day. Car drives great, handles like a little Corvette, by "little" I mean it's not a power-monster and not as wide. I have problems with the Belt Idlers, maybe I rev really high, yes, I do, and these are not designed for the punishment, so I recommend replacing both anytime they begin to get noisy. I'm also running about 60% synthetic oil-blend, with a quart of Penzoil High Mileage 10-30w mixed in, and one of those fancy "Turbo Twirl Swirlers" in the Intake Line after the Air Filter. Does it help? maybe not, but I figure it may keep intake parts a bit cleaner by swirling the air.

Strengths:
Car's been sound for 175,000 miles, good takeoff, good cornering, both better than most cars I meet on the road, not all of course, like some Mercedes, BMW, Z-Cars, Vettes.... But better on mileage, I can still get 30 mpg if I'm careful on the road.

Weaknesses:
Low-Torque engine at low RPM's, you have to really wind this engine going up grades, and it really should have gotten a 5-speed automatic trans, not a 4, that would have solve a lot of the torque weakness and let the engine do more of what it was designed for, the 2.7 that is.

Similar Products Used:
81 Vette, similar in handling, and 87 Volvo Turbo 740 with similar power.

Price Paid:  $35000.00 from Chrysler Dealer

Year / Model Reviewed:
2000 Chrysler Concorde LXi

Summary:
I have had the car for several years now and have only had a thermostat problem. It needed to be replaced which Chrysler covered, and required an evaporater [covered]. Because the thermostat failed, the cooling system of the engine was unable to work. I brought the car to a small family owned repair shop for an oil change before the thermostat broke, and when I brought it to Chrysler for the thermostat, they told me that it was running on no oil. That explained why the temperature of the engine was rising so high so quickly. I have to say that this engine [2.7 liter V6] is reliable. I drove the car with no cooling system [only fans] and no oil for about 3000 miles with no breakdowns. The temperature guage was stationary at the 3/4 zone, instead of its normal 1/4 zone. I had no trouble getting the cooling system fixed, and there was no damage done to the engine. Now at 75,000 miles the car is still running perfect. The transmission is shifting smooth, and the engine purrs beautifully. After my engine experience, I would say that the car was well worth the money. I can't think of any other car that can run with no cooling system and no oil for 3000 miles, and still run perfectly. After all the years I have driven the car I am still competely satisfied with it and couldn't be happier. I love the clean look of the interior, and the way the car handles on long stretches of curvy winding roads. For a large car, it handles great, and it is a lot of fun to accelerate through tight curves at high speeds on long roads, and just feel the G forces. I can't imagine what other drivers to to their cars. Like the reviews before mine where there was sludge in the engine, and where the engine failed. I have never had those problems, maybe its the driver...or maybe its that no one returns the car to Chrysler for repairs, they designed the car, they no more about it than any other mechanic. I know Chrysler dealers around my Connecticut neighborhood area would decline servicing the engine before it reached its warranty limit. This car has been wonderful for me and I would give it a 12 on a scale of 1-10. The only time I have ever considered getting a new car was when they unveiled the new BMW 5 series, which I am still considering. I test drove the 2006 BMW 530xi and the Concorde had a smoother ride on lond curvy roads, and was better when thrown in hard corners. Acceleration on the BMW was better, but the Concorde has more passing power. I would reccomend this car to any worthy owner that would car for it.

Strengths:
Stong engine, lots of power, incredible Infinity stereo system.

Weaknesses:
More power up long steep grades.

Similar Products Used:
I test drove the 2006 BMW 530xi and found no advantages over the Concorde.
