Price Paid:  $14500.00 from Pembina Chrysler, Wi

Year / Model Reviewed:
2005 Dodge Neon

Strengths:
Outstanding value, large interior and "peppy" performance, engineered CHEAP upkeep (simple transmission, designed to burn poor gas, intentional inexpensive spark plugs, etc). Outstanding Winter performance .. 2" high ground clearance then Civic, wonderful heater, etc).

Weaknesses:
DEPRECIATION was enormous ... but was largely due to Chrysler's pricing practice of inflating MSRP to cover the cost of often "0%" financing. My 2005 MSRP was $20,000 but I paid $14,500 cash -- so I had learned to essentially pocket the depreciation by not using the Chrysler financing.

Summary:
I have had three Dodge Neons .. 1995, 2001, and 2005 (called Dodge SX 2.0). All have been just terrific cars; as we all know, until 1997 the headgaskets went constantly; so my 1995 was a really nice driving car, it has some issues.

However my 2001 and 2005 have virtually been trouble free. J D Power -- contrary to popular belief -- rated the Neon slighty ABOVE the Honda Civic for durability (both cars were not highly rated -- again something people are surprised to hear).

The Neon has was heavily made sport of by Toyota and Honda buyers because of it's cabforward styling -- which gave it a large interior, but made the hood short.

Today, both the Corolla and Honda Civic are strongly cabforward designs and the Civic adapted away from the double-wishbone suspension, to being MacPherson Stuts -- just like the Neon. The Corolla redesign was almost spec to spec identical to the 2nd generation Neon -- including the engine being approx 132hp.

Although the Neon never receive the "major" redo that was actually planned for 2000 -- it was stil competitive until the Mazda 3 came out, and the most recent Civic redesign -- both of which surpassed the Neon in being clearly superior designs.

Until then, the Neon did very well in Quantitative assessment, and poorly in Qualitative assessment (like consumers magazine) -- in comparison to other cars of similiar size and cost.

Drove a Civic for several years, before happenstance .. uh forced .. me into Dodge products. I was amazed how my views were incorrect on domestic cars -- granted you have to do far better research to get good domestic cars.

Price Paid:  $14000.00 from Deacon Dodge

Year / Model Reviewed:
2004 SXT

Strengths:
Safe, dependable, affordable transportation.

Weaknesses:
Not fast or fun, but it was never designed to be.

Summary:
With the neon you should really know what you're buying before you go in. Especially with the low line SXT. It's not a race car, it's not a van, it's not a truck, it's basic, economical, inexpensive transportation. I've put 41,000 miles on mine and have had no problems. It needs a brake job, but that's not bad with the mileage I've put on it, and I'll be happy to have it done. It's not fast, it's not roomy, but it is safe for its size. An expidition t-boned me on the driver door, and I had a sore neck and that's it. My daughter was in the opposite back seat in a safety seat, and was completely unhurt. Worth the money if you just want a basic car, but know what you're buying.

2004 Dodge Neon SXT 5-Speed

Strengths:
FUN FACTOR! Acceleration, handling, sound system.

Weaknesses:
Gas mileage less than perfect when driven hard.

Summary:
It's a 2004 Dodge neon sxt 5-speed. It's the 5-speed which makes it a blast to drive. So far i'm very impressed with this car. It's got a great sound system and cd player already. It's all about to be upgraded though ;) So far Ive put a cold air intake and a cat back on it and it really brought the car to life. It's got awesome acceleration and gas mileage. All in all a 9/10 cuz it's not the srt-4!

Price Paid:  $13000.00 from Cortese Dodge

Year / Model Reviewed:
2004 sxt

Strengths:
Looks, sound system, after market parts

Weaknesses:
I'd like a little more juice from the engine.

Summary:
This is the second Neon I owned. The 1st was a 95, i had a lot of problems with this car with everything from brake lines to rear main seal and head gasket, finnally the transmission went. But I liked the car, so I test drove a 2004 neon, and bought, and i have put 5500 miles on this car in just under 4 months, with out a single problem, air conditioner blasting the whole time. I love my car.

Price Paid:  $7400.00 from Desert Crystler Jeep

2003 neon/se

Strengths:
great acceleration Smooth auomatic transmission with 4 speed great stock sound system w/cd player good breaks so far.... smooth at up to a speed of 95. Of cource that is as far as I pushed it. Could go more... Sporty appearence

Weaknesses:
Engine could be bigger.

Summary:
I am a full time college student that was looking for a I was looking around on the internet and found a blue 2003 dodge neon se with 18.610 miles on it. When I looked at the price I soon said to my self. What is wrong with it, becuase every car I had looked at for a dodge neon quoted was around 10,000 for a 02 model. I checked out the record on the car at carfax.com. it checked out with what the dealer gave me. It was a car that belonged to a major rental company in sanfransisco california.Taking a big chance I went for the deal. I flew down to vegas from elko nevada. About 450 miles from vegas. The dealership picked me up. Right when I saw the car I new it was the one. I signed the papers and out the door I went. I went to the gas station right after I left because the dealer gave me 20 bucks to fill it. At 2.14 a gal it cost me 10.14 to sill a half tank. I went to start it and it wouldn't turn over. I tought I had bought a lemon. I called the dealership and it turns out they forgot to take out the anti theft starter fuse. They guided me to disconect that device over the phone and I continued on my way home. I made it all the way home without filling the tank once. On the way home I encountered 4 inches of snow. The car handled impressivly. I have had it for about 3 weeks and havent been disatisfied with it yet. The stock speakers is the best part of the whole car in my opinion.
