Honda Civic (2010 and older) Midsize | Compact

DESCRIPTION

The Civic is Honda’s compact car that is offered in sedan and coupe versions. First introduced as a small, inexpensive hatchback in 1972, the Civic has increased in size during its lifetime while continuing to offer excellent fuel economy. The entire Civic line was all-new for 2006.

The basic Civic is available as a sedan and coupe and comes in several trims: DX, DX-VP, LX-S, EX and EX-L. The Civic SI, the performance-oriented trim, offers 57 more horsepower than the base model, a few more performance options and a starting price of around $7,000 more than the base Civic.

The Civic also comes in two eco-friendly options: the Honda Civic Hybrid, which is reviewed separately, and the GX, a hybrid alternative that runs on Compressed Natural Gas. Unfortunately the GX is only sold in California (and other states that have accepted California's Zero-Emission Vehicle regulations). It costs about $10,000 more than a base Civic.

Gas consumption

Weakness:

Honda support and warranty.

At 16,000 km's, the transmission in our new 2007 standard transmission Honda Civic broke down. Honda claimed that this was due to abuse! This was absolutely not the case.
My wife and I have driven manual transmission cars for many years....we are both in our 50's and not the type to abuse our cars. Honda refused to accept any blame and we were forced to pay a $4,000 repair bill. We had no support what-so-ever from anyone at Honda....not the dealer, not at Honda Canada. Would they consider cost sharing the repair bill?....NO! How about giving us a break on the parts or labour cost? NO!
At the time of purchase we added extra warranty coverage "Honda Plus". Be aware that Honda Plus warranty does not mean a thing in the US. Our car broke down in Michigan (alternator)....guess what...not covered!
I will never again by a Honda.

Strength:

Reliability, style, fuel efficiency, resale value

Weakness:

Weak highway acceleration, weak headlights, cheap interior fabrics and materials

I loved this car more than life. It took some time to grow on me (I'd owned a V6 prior) but once I saw I was getting 40mpg on the highway and 28 in the city with the AC on, I never looked back! Awesome car, never had a SINGLE problem with it in the three years I owned it. Fun to drive (like a go cart) and when I was finally forced to sell it I got a very decent price for it. A+ in my book.

Strength:

Excellent handling. Good console functionality for the driver. Attractive.

Weakness:

DOES NOT WORK WITH CHILD CAR SEATS. The back seat is not deep enough to fit rear facing infant car seats and in order to use a front facing car seat the front seat must be moved all the way forward and/or laid down in order to provide appropriate leg room for the child. Backseat is uncomfortable for adults, not enough room. Backseat is usable for short rides only.

The Honda 4 Door Civic sedan is not appropriate for families. The back seat does not fit rear facing car seats and barely fits front facing car seats. Adults riding in the back seat struggle to stay comfortable on long rides. A few extra inches would have made this car perfect.

Strength:

Beautiful, strong, smooth

Weakness:

space on the back seat is quite narrow. I find it very annoying, but it might just be because i'm not used to a 2 door car. (I owned a toyota camry before this car)

Overall, i'm very satisfy with my decision. The car is smooth and looks very sporty hott!!! also, i live in minnesota and i was quite worried that it will not drive well in the snow. This is the my first winter with this car and so far it is amazing! LOVING MY CAR!

Weakness:

power. poor handling in the snow. not the smoothest ride.

i bought this car 2 years ago from a friend. after having it less than a year i unfortunately had to drive to work on the worst day of winter and smoked a tree head on. drivers side. it did a bunch of damage, but in the middle of winter in my driveway, i straightened the frame and welded it all together and got new body panels and such and still driving strong a year later. since then the car has been driven across canada, been driven into (drivers door and repaired) and still going! has over 250.000 km and only mechanically ever put a timing belt/water pump on it. always starts, and never lets me down. Love that car

I haven't noticed any yet.

Thus far, I have really enjoyed my Honda Civic. I am getting 36 miles to the gallon. Also, my insurance went down $100 every six months. The car looks small from the outside, but is quite roomy inside.

I had a Ford Mustang convertible until an eighteen wheeler ran into my car. I like the smooth feel and roominess of my Civic.

36-38 miles per gallon highway if you drive it easy (at a steady 70 mph). Looks nice and handles great.

Weakness:

The seat is a little uncomfortable after a few hours of straight driving; a lumbar support would be helpful in this (or a rolled up towel).
Also, not a very good car to make out in.

I bought this car as a salvage/rebuilt that was totalled from the rear. There was no motor/tranny damage; just body damage.
I travel a lot between Boston and Cleveland (600 miles) and this car gets great gas mileage, drives smoothly and handles well. It also gets great gas mileage in the city, which makes me happy.

Recently Honda has started cheating people with bad quality of tires.

Beware of Honda.
This comment is on Honda Civic - 2007 and Honda Fit - 2008.
Recently Honda has started putting very bad quality of tires. I had to replace all four tires of Civic at 27k miles. All four of Fit gone bad at only 19k miles. One I had to replace immediately at tire rotation. Honda did not pay a dime. Their answer is, "we do not make tires. Contact the tire company."

Three years/36000 miles warranty did not work.
