Expert Review: 2011 Hyundai Sonata
Expert Rating: 4.5 stars

"Luckily for cash strapped Americans, the new Sonata is still very competitive when it comes to price. With MSRP ranging from $19k to $25k, this is a lot of car for the money..."

Review 1 of 163

Price Paid:  $23000.00 from Lester Glenn Hynunda

Year / Model Reviewed:
2010 Hyundai Sonata SE

Strengths:
NICE CAR AND STYLING. PLENTY OF ROOM. GOOD FUEL ECONOMY

Weaknesses:
SINCE CAR WAS PURCHASED CAR HAS PULLED TO THE LEFT AND REAL BAD AT OVER 50 MPH. BROUGHT BACK TO DEALER FOR SECOND TIME TO CORRECT AND SERVICE TECH STATED ON INVOICE THAT THIS IS HOW THESE CARS ARE WITH 18" WHEELS AND WITH THE SUSPENSION PACKAGE.HAD SEVERAL OTHER VEHICLES IN PAST WITH WHEELS AND SPORT PACKAGES AND NEVER HAD THIS PROBLEM. NOT ONLY THE INCONVIENCE OF BRING CAR TO GET CORRECTED THE HASSLE OF NOT GETTING IT CORRECTED. DEALER LET US DRIVE ANOTHER WITH SAME PACKAGE AND CAR WAS WORSE AND WHEN APPLIED BRAKE HAD A CREAKING NOISE IN IT. I THINK THEY MIGHT HAVE A PROBLEM ON THERE HANDS WITH THIS NEW DESIGN. WAITING TO HERE FROM DEALER AGAIN TO BRING BACK FOR A THIRD TIME.

Summary:
OTHER THAT THE BAD PULL AT 40 MPH AND OVER THE CAR IS A NICE CAR. LITTLE ROUGH RIDE BUT THAT IS EXPECTED WITH WHEEL PACKAGE.ROAD NOISE FROM INSIDE CAR COULD BE QUIETER.

Summary:
Love this car! I have owned 3 Honda EX Accords and Hyundai is what Honda was 10 yrs ago...alot for the money. Honda now is overpriced however still an excellent car. The SE has dual exhaust and the ride is great! Great gas mileage with a 200 HP 4 Cyl engine!

Review 3 of 163

Price Paid:  $16000.00 from Hardin Hyundia Anahe

Year / Model Reviewed:
2009 Hyundia Sonta GSL 4-cyl, 5A

Strengths:
The price, although I have learned or been reminded you get what you pay for. Good interior room, like dash instrument placement.

Weaknesses:
Poor ride quality, very rough ride. More engine noise than you would expect for a new car. Small annoyances like rattles from seat belt on the passenger side. The more seriour weakness is the rough road feel and poor ride quality. I think this is more a design flaw. Many reviews mention this problem. Take it for more than around the block test drive. You may make another choice froma more established and better quality auto maker. But it will cost you more.

Summary:
Is a word disappointing. Don't believe the hype about strides in quality. I can only imagine what the quality was like before it this is the best they can offer. THis is the only car in 40 years that I purchased new that I had no great "new car" feeling. THe poor ride quality overshadows everything good about the car. It's an appliance auto--gets you from A to B. I ownered Toyota for 30 years and never felt this way. Live and learn. There is a reason they are clearance sale priced, and come with a extended warranty.

Review 4 of 163

Price Paid:  $14500.00 from Autofair Hyundai

Year / Model Reviewed:
2009 Hyundai Sonata

Strengths:
Gas-mileage (29 to 31 typical). Roomy interior and trunk, Comfy seats. Unbeatable warranty.
It looks good...

Weaknesses:
-Dash looks dated (since corrected with 2009).
-Interior colors too light--will show dirt too easily. (since corrected with 2009).

Summary:
Bought this after looking at similar class vehicles. Great power for 4-cyl (with manual transmission); smooth engine. Plenty of room, quiet. Loaded with excellent features: anti-lock brakes, stability control; lots of airbags.
I love that Hyundai installed a timing chain and not a timing belt!

Review 5 of 163

Price Paid:  $18000.00 from Brownsville Tx

Year / Model Reviewed:
2009 Sonata

Strengths:
Nice trunk. Steering wheel radio controls are nice also.

Weaknesses:
The 5 year warranty must be a farce since Hyundai refuses to repair the problem.

Summary:
If you are only going to drive around town this car may be ok but if you are going to take a 3000 mile trip like I did be ready to do it without cruise control. The cruise control will kick the transmission out of overdrive on every slight grade(overpasses, bridges etc.) one or more times in most every mile. You will get terrible fuel mileage while in cruise mode (23 mpg. or so)This will have to shorten the life of the transmission and is just plain irritateing. Also has alot of rattles and road noise.
