Review 1 of 16

Price Paid:  $24000.00 from Jim Ellis Mazda

Year / Model Reviewed:
2002 Mazda/Millenia

Summary:
I bought my Millenia new, and In fewer than 5 years and 50,000 miles, I've been plagued with more than $4,000 in repairs all stemming from engine light issues including gas tank replacement. Most recently, the catalytic converter needed to be replaced, thankfully, this one was under warranty.
I am meticulous in car maintanence and have had every recommended oil change and tune-up, so this car has been nothing but a money pit. Most frustrating of all is that I never get an answer as to why these problems occur ... just a shrug and a general 'wear and tear' response. Give me a break! I will never buy a Mazda again.

Review 2 of 16

Price Paid:  $0.00 from Mazda of Clear Lake

Year / Model Reviewed:
2002 Mazda Millenia S Special Edition

Summary:
Love this car. Have the V6 with supercharger. Great gas mileage, especially on highway. Great pickup, handling and quiet. I drive this car everywhere. It is not pampered and have put almost 100,000 miles on it (Bought with only 500 miles). Have only changed the oxygen sensor for the first time last week. No other problems. Always get compliments and people wondering what king of car it is. Had a 97 millenia before this. Would highly recommend.

Strengths:
Classic styling, good features for the price, handles well, gas mileage.

Weaknesses:
no nav, sound system not the best. Expensive parts when dealing with the mazda dealership.

Similar Products Used:
97 mazda millenia
96 mazda mx6
toyota

Review 3 of 16

Price Paid:  $13688.00 from Joe Myers

Year / Model Reviewed:
2002 Mazda Millenia

Summary:
Its an okay car when it works. If i could go back in time i honestly wouldn't buy it. There isnt much customization or anything to do to increase power other than changing the air filter and exhaust. My mileage around town is about 16MPG. I don't go long distances on highways too often so i wouldn't know the highway mileage it gets. Parts for this car are 3 to 4 times more expensive than domestic cars. The alternator is $360 and thats not including labor b/c most of the engine work requires the engine to be raised in order to do work. Brake parts for this car are hard to come by and are 2 to 4 times as expensive as conventional cars. If you have money to burn, this is your car. What i need is a nice reliable jeep and no more imports for me. FWD isnt good at all.

Strengths:
Its a nice interior compared to domestic cars, but that doesn't overpower the weaknesses.

Weaknesses:
EXPENSIVE PARTS!!!!
poor fuel economy
higher labor cost b/c it takes longer to work on.

Review 4 of 16

Price Paid:  $25000.00 from Blue Ridge Mazda

Year / Model Reviewed:
2002 Mazda Millenia S

Summary:
I bought the car new in 2002 and have used it sparingly in the last 4 years (only 25KM). It's not a standout performer (7.5 sec 0-60 with a top of 155) but holds it's own in highway acceleration. Definately a looker as fewer and fewer are seen on the road today, compliments all the time. First thing I did was change to synthetic oil and tranny fluid and that made a big difference (probably was the tranny fluid) really smooth shifts and better (noticably) performance. After 7500 miles...the oil is still clear. Guess that's a good sign. Overall...it's an okay car. It's fast enough for me...the S is a much better performer than the L, has the comfort I'm wanting...and the price was right. Looked as a maxima SE for a few grand more and while the performance was great, it lacked the subtle 'refined' look and feel of the millenia....and they are everywhere!!! So I got what I got and I'm not complaining. So far...no problems, knock knock. It does have a unique tranny...4 speed with a mazda exclusive 'hold' button to lock in a gear. Would have preferred a well designed 5 speed auto with trip, but that's getting picky for a car i spent $25K on. Got used to it and it's become fun to drive...but take practice. Overall...it's a keeper for me as resale of mazda's are tragic, but I knew that when I got it. I like to think that as the next few years go by...I'll have one of the few S Milli's on the road. And its looks are timeless.

Strengths:
Exclusivity...I don't see one on every corner.
Quality interior...layout and material.
Asthetics...doubt we'll see another of the like.

Weaknesses:
The S gets intown milage...under 20. Hwy...about 27.
Wierd 4 speed tranny setup...could have used a 5 speed auto.

Similar Products Used:
Tested the following:
TL...better all around, but more expensive.
330XI...really good, but really pricy.
Maxima SE...a lot of car for the buck, good alternative.
