Comfy ride, has never left me stranded,ABS, Safety

Weakness:

many small repairs, no lumbar support, looks

I bought this car only because my friend had one and he had 170k on it with out to many problems. Not the case when I bought mine with 85k last year. I have just about replaced every thing but the engine and tranny. I kept every receipt for repairs and in one year I spent around $3000,00. I'll mention a few: brakes, brakes, brakes, roters, rear struts( broke in half). Intake manifold gasket, tie rods etc. The spark plugs are located behind the engine so when it comes time to replace then its very expensive because they have to bring the engine forward in order to get to them (stupid design). I'm a photographer and drive about 35k a year. This car now has a 142k on it. The drive train is bullet proof. The engine sounds like a new car and the tranny shifts very smoothly. the ride is fairly comfy and the power is good for just about any thing you might encounter on the road. In the rain and snow its great, the tires are big and wide and stick very well. The anti lock brakes are amazing and have saved my ass a few time in the rain. Over all my feelings are mixed about this car. If you keep up with all the small repairs it will keep going for ever. I'm confident it can go over 200k if not way more before you see any tranny or engine problems. All of my coworkers swear by any Toyota or the mitsubishi galant for repair free driving over 150k. I'll probably go toyota next time. They cost more but when you factor in repairs its worth it. One last thing I almost forgot Gas milage. It gets 320 miles per tank in mixed city high way and any where between 350 and 400 miles on long high way drive. over all average is 310 miles per 16 gallons.

They are tuff cars, and if you are good to them they are good to you. At least my car always was.Good gas mileage. A great first car.

Weakness:

Digital dashes, and the power windows, my passengers side motor was broke. rusted on the hood in the middle.

I have had this car for about 3 years, I bought it with 177,000 miles on it. It was my real first car. I loved it. Now we think the engine is clogged water isn't cirrculating. So it dies when it gets warm. Anyways I figured this car would only last me about a year, but it lasted me about two before the engine problems. I estimate it has somewhere between 210,000 to 215,000 miles on it now, since it has a digital dash that only works have the time, and the odemeter says error after you hit 200,000 miles. I guess they didn't expect these cars to last that long. I have also had a few other minor problems. Other then that it was great. we are going to try to fix it so my parents can drive it around town, but thats about it. I loved my car even when it did give me problems. I never had problems with it away from home, which was good cause I went to school 1:30 away from my home. I miss my car.

Weakness:

I gets u pulled over for speeding alot

I bought this car with no intention of keeping it for as long as I did, Ever day I beat the heck out of the car from doing rollbacks or burning out to revving the engine and dropping it into gear, it had 162,000 miles on it when I got it and it had 220,000 miles when I got rid of it. I woukld take jumps and plow thru snowbanks and hit trash cans with it. When I sold the car there was nothing wrong with it except that it needed new tires. The transmission in it still shifted perfect and the engine sounded good. I sold the car for $800 which is what I paid for it. I would reccomend this car to anybody who wants one.

3.1 v-6, tons of room, great power, stearing.

Weakness:

Weak to Dodge Durangos, calipers.

I have to say that when I first got this car I was very happy about it. I paaid $2,000 for it and it came fully stock and with 140,000 highway miles on it. I had it for a year and had no problems with it. I replaced the brake pads, and calipers abut thats it. I had the power I needed to pull in front of people and to burn my tires when I wanted. I had a car starter and alarm installed. I put in all Pioneer equipment (i.e six new speakers, deck, amp, sub, and wires.) I even put in Sirius Sattilite radio. And I was lovein it. I then had ground effects put on it. And thats when my problems began. I was hit by a Dodge Durango in the front quater panel. I had body and engine damage. It cost me about $3,000.00 to fix everything. I had all new after markte parts put on. And had to replace all of the heads. And that was about two months ago. Now I am hearing this loud knockingsound coming from the engine. Come to find out that I have broken the piston block. So now I am looking for a new engine. That I will be installing myself. But all in all if the lady didn't hit me I would still have a wonderful car that was doing what it was meant to...rockin all day and all night.

Weakness:

Not really comfortable seats. Bad gas-mileage

This car is GM overlooked diamond! I bought it 100K miles in it, now it has 140K, and runs great! I drive it every day, more than 300 miles/week. Never ever had any probelm. The only thing I replaced is the front left bearing, it started to make noise, but it was less than $150 with labour. Gas mileage is not very good, but higway milage is acceptable. This car has HUGE legroom both front and back. Seat are not really comfortable, though. You will develop a backache if driving more than 300 miles in hw. I am really atisfied with this olds, it's a shame they stopped producing this brand. These car are really maintenance-free cars, just change the oil every 3000 miles, and you are on the road!

Weakness:

Age and the problems that come with it.

I had the car for two years and it gave me very little problems, especially for as old as it was. It had 97,700 miles on it when I bought it, and I put over 31,000 miles on it. I replaced the back struts, a headlight, the alternator, the tires and fixed a minor engine oil leak. Most of the work my brother did, which was nice because all I had to do was pay for parts. It gets about 26 mpg highway and is pretty peppy. So if you're looking at one, make sure to check it out carefully before you buy it. With a car this old, you just don't know what's going to be wrong with it. But most of what went wrong with mine was simply due to age, not shabbiness. Be prepared to spend some money in repairs. Overall it's an great car. If you take care of it, it will last you!

Weakness:

Brakes, gas mileage, potentially unreliable.

I just recently replace my 1993 Nissan Altima w/190,000 miles on it at my parents request. They offered to sell me at a reduced rate, my mom's 1998 Olds Cutlass GLS. My Cutlass is basically a fancier version of the Malibu and in my opinion, better looking than the Malibu. My car is a sort of medium denim blue color with a neutral looking leather. It has the PW,PL,CC,AC,ABS,Auto On headlights, CD/Cass, along with a ton of other features. I like the size of the car, bigger than my Altima, but not too big. It took me awhile to find a comfortable driving position, but in doing so, I block out the top of the speedometer with the steering wheel. It's really the little things that I like...the headlights that turn on in darkness, the cruise control main that never shuts off, even if you shut the car off, the power window lock that still allows the driver full control of all 4 windows. It has a nice sized back seat, and a good sized trunk. It does have the split fold rear seats, which have already come in handy. This is my first car in over 3 years with a V6 and auto transmission. I am still getting used to the power, ie my gas mileage sucks. I drive a 45 mile one way commute M-F, and have been averaging 23-25 MPG. Although I do really like having the passing power. The car is very comfortable on my commute, I don't feel fatigued. I love the stock speakers in this car...I put in my own Kenwood with Sirius satellite radio, sounds awesome. Overall, I think this car is a great car, I am just concerned about reliability. Hopefully this car will prove to me it's a good reliable car.

well i find my cutlass to be a shocker, my wife saw it at the dealer and i did not like the way to looked. but to took it for i test drive and was convinced when i got on it i little, so i got it, thinging that i would be the grocery getter of the family ( wifes car) as i am restoring a 79 camaro. being in my twentys and need some power incase some punk wants to race, i went to the muffler shop and installed a flowmaster with 4' tip, and removed the reservetor to get the full sound of the flow, at first it seemed ok, but as the master wore in it got louder and is still improving, so now curious what else can i do. i want to install a intake or knn filter, wing, grafics, and hoodscoop, if wife agrees as it is her car. i find to cutlass to be a great car with a lot of hidden potentail, i mean it has a sucker for a intake, shifts to quick at low rpms, but with all this it seems to be powerfull, imagine what would happen if modifed?, so far only race all out once, not was satisfied even though i lost, yes lost to a v8 caddy seville, u may wonder why i lost, not power, but because the caddy had i higher top end speed, the cutlass, got by the caddy but toped out at about 105 -110, sad as the rpms was only a about 4000- 4500 rpm, and the cutlass has 160 at 5200, plus the flowmaster adds 5- 20 more hrp, i intend to fix this with i chip or progammer, hope they have one. i was disapointed as my 96 eclipse did that easyly.but will see what i can do, for readers of this, racing is dangerous becarfull and not reckless, drive safely and know when to back off espeacially in corners

Strength:

Good body build, fast, lots of room, smooth, quiet ride.

Weakness:

Engine problems that no one seems to be able to explain.

It's interesting to read all the different reviews on the Cutlass Supremes. Some people have great experiences...the rest of us are left dumbfounded. Which leads me to believe that there is a crop of these cars that rolled out of the factory retarded. Ours was given to us by my Grandmother-in-law who had bought it brand new in '92 and managed to only put a measely 35,000 miles on it. We were thinking "Great deal!" Until a year later when the engine spun a bearing and completely seized resulting in a rather hefty bill ($2600!!) to have a re-manufactured engine installed. All was well (except for a teeny oil leak when the car was inclined) for a whole year and a half. Over the summer, our breaks went out. After having them serviced, the mechanic informed us that "something" had contaminated the master cylinder, but he wasn't sure what. About a month ago, the car started burning oil, but in the absence of any other problems, my husband assumed it was simply a cracked seal. A little over a week ago, the car started backfiring, so we decided to take it in. The engine is under a 3 year warranty, however our current mechanic doesn't see any indication that the manufacturer is at fault. According to him, the engine has been "boiled". Overheated so badly that our 6 cylinder car was only running on 5 and most of the pistons were shot. There was oil sprayed everywhere and baked onto everything. Well, this explains our past brake problem. We've done nothing but baby this stupid car ever since it's little "operation" last year and now a year a half old engine has been fried with no obvious reason why. Most people seem to think it's a fault of ours. The only people who know are my husband and I...and we haven't done anything to constitute this. We never drove over 55mph during the "break-in" period and have kept the oil changed. Apparently, our temperature gauge is funtioning properly...so how could this happen? We don't know. Perhaps some of these cars are simply cursed. Or perhaps they just don't like certain people. I believe one reviewer compared his to Carrie. I actually referred to ours by the same name. We've had nothing but bad luck since we got the stupid thing. We've replaced the tires, alternator, windshield, spark plugs and cables, brake pads and rotors, had the breaking system fixed, the engine REPLACED...and now the replacement is being serviced. We've only had it for 2 and a half years! It's a good thing we didn't pay money to aquire this vehicle. And it's too bad we can't afford a new car. I'd be taking a baseball bat to the under-hood region of this one. And it's funny...after reading all the complaints about the little problems (flimsy interior, power window problems, etc...) we've only had one minor problem. Over the summer, it got really hot and our interior rear-view mirror fell off. The transmission's even functioning properly! Sometimes I wonder if car manufacturers construct cars differently in order to conduct surveys on what works best. The rest of the car is great. Lots of room, comfy, great power (when the engine's not seizing or overheating). AC works fine. The body is nearly impeccable. This thing's been driven for 11 years and only has minor dings and scratches. But for all of it's good qualities, I'd rather have a smaller, less attractive car that I wouldn't have to turn around and fix every few months. The worst part about these cars is that no one seems to know what causes their problems. Our mechanic has gone over every possible scenario to explain our roasted engine and he can't find anything that would've caused it. In closing, if you want to buy one of these cars, just think of it as a 50/50 venture. You might get a fantastic vehicle that will give you years of enjoyment with minimal expense...or you might end up with one like ours.
