from Alhambra Chrysler/Je Year / Model Reviewed: 2001 /Neon Strengths: Handling, power and braking very good, value for the money. good size trunk too. roomy rear seat. Generous size cupholders, its'' let''s GO attitude. Weaknesses: The usual Neon...though better this time around. Noise...Vibration...Harshness. One day MoPar might get it right. Fit and finish while much better still pales next to a Honda, or Toyota. Summary: O.k. first off, let''s face it. This is NOT a Honda,Toyota, etc. This little 4 door basic sedan has the 132 H.P. motor that vibrates more than it should, but it has great power for such a light car. The ride is not in the Japanese class, but boy it handles great. Turn in is quick and precise. Understeers predictably as most front drivers do, but easy to control when you lift a bit and the line comes back into shape. Economy is good, with even spirited driving. The comfort/convience is good ,but again still lacking the Japanese refinement. Room is quite good, and I like the cup holders. Way better than my brothers Cavilier, but even the Cav is quieter. I looked at the used Honda''s and Toys'' and wow, incredible how expensive these cars are used. For the same money this Neon cost, a Honda had to be at least 3 or more years older than the Neon to equal its'' price. I think the point is that it is made for good transportation, NOT great transportation. For the short trips and occational long trips, you could do worse. This Neon has spunk and personality. So far the only nagging thing with the Neon is a bad dash speaker, but otherwise the main performance items are every bit as good if not better than what I had from Japan. Just that the refinement is not there. Kind of reminds me of how some the raw early Japanese cars were. NVH is better than the Neon I drove a few years back. This car has a let''s GO attitude that I didn''t expect. Merging onto freeways is so easy. I like the car for what it is, but I would never confuse it with what the finest that Japan can offer. That said, the Neon is just fine. If I could afford another Toy, or Honda, I would have one, but I can''t so the Neon with its'' virtues, and rough edges and noise just add to its'' personality. Love it or hate it, there it is. Drive one and see if it just wouldn''t make the ideal 2nd car, or your teens'' first car. Rating below is definately comsurate relative to what you can get today. The Neon needs to keeps its'' Spunky attitude and go to finishing school, and it would be killer coupe/sedan that Daimler/Chryslser could really sell against the Japanese cars. Similar Products Used: Too many Toyotas, Honda Civic, and Acura Integra.
