Price Paid:  $26000.00 from Aloha Kia Honolulu

Year / Model Reviewed:
2008 Kia Sedona LX

Summary:
Just bought a brand new Kia Sedona LX. We love the roomy van. We had a Mazda 5 and found it too small for three growing children. We also love the fact that the back has its own air conditioner controls. We felt we got a pretty good price but had to haggle a lot at the dealer. They wanted $29,000. we got it for $26,000. out the door.

Strengths:
Roomy, lots of leg room in front and back, air conditioner vents and controls in back as well as front, stow away back seats. 60,000 mile warranty , solid doors, well built. Supposedly priced lower than other vans like Honda and Toyota.

Weaknesses:
Dealer mark up.

Price Paid:  $17000.00 from Leith Kia

Year / Model Reviewed:
2008 Kia Sedona LX

Summary:
So far so good! I have read and heard mixed reviews on this vehicle and brand. We got a great deal and could not pass up on this one! We did pay the extra $1600.00 for the additional warranty which goes from 5 years or 60k miles up to the full 10 year 100k mile bumper to bumper warranty! Figured if the negative things we have heard were true, at least we would have a great warranty to back us up! I will keep updating as I have the vehicle longer.

Strengths:
Acceleration!!!!! DVD system is a must with kids. Nothing like a long road trip and not one child asking, "how much longer?" Also the 3 zone climate control.

Weaknesses:
Fuel economy, cheap interior knobs and dash.

2000 Dodge Grand Caravan

Price Paid:  $0.00 from Casey Kia

Year / Model Reviewed:
2007 Kia Sedona EX

Summary:
Bought the vehicle because it beat out the Honda Odyssey for safety. Appeared to have gotten a "good deal," as the loaded Sedona was less expensive than the base model Odyssey. Less than one year later and we average one repair/month (mostly electrical)! Yes it has a great warranty, but you need it! I'm glad we don't have to pay for the repairs, but it's still very inconvenient and getting old. They are not always able to "locate the problem" which is also quite frustrating.

Strengths:
Smooth ride that is nice and spacious.

Weaknesses:
In the shop for mostly electrical repairs ALL the time.

Review 5 of 56

Price Paid:  $22000.00 from Reno Kia

Year / Model Reviewed:
2007 Sedona EX

Summary:
Purchased this car after shopping around for a month. Looked at Honda and Dodge minivans comparatively. Liked the interior layout and responsive engine. Fuel economy not bad.
That being said the car has been falling apart after a year of ownership. Idler pully started screaming and had that replaced. Outside door moulding started curling and popping off; replaced. Had to replace rotors and brake pads at 22,000 miles, because the warranty only covers 12 months or 12,000 miles of wear, and the dealership wants $550 to change out the rotors and brakes. I have never had a cars breaks go so bad in such a short amount of time, and to top it off those are mostly highway miles not city stop-and-go!
Fuses keep blowing on the lighter and aux power outlets when I plug in my cell phone to charge..??
Adding insult to injury, I am closing in on the first 30,000 miles which means a hefty $650+ to do what?, change the fluids and do a once-over inspection.
I'm really wishing I had gone for that Honda or Dodge right about now.

Strengths:
Engine power. Roominess.

Weaknesses:
Brakes went bad after one year; 22,000 miles of use and the dealership wants $550 to change out rotors and brakes. This problem seems to be rather common now that I have done some research. The 30K and 60k mile services are mandatory if you want to keep your "great warranty" and they are doozies at $650+ each. Also, the paint is really thin and scratches if the wind shifts directions.

Honda, Chevy
