Ruling: The 2011 Scion xD has an extensive list of customization options and high-tech sound systems, but driving the xD has a fun factor of -2 and you won't be buying this cargo for its cargo space.

The 2011 Scion xD, a 5-door urban subcompact car, features a 1.8 liter engine rated at 128 hp. Fuel economy checks in at 27 mpg city and 33 mpg on the highway. According to Edmunds testing, 0-60 is 8.4 seconds and almost a full second faster than the Honda Fit; braking to a full stop from 60 mph was accomplished in an impressive 123 feet.

New for 2011 is a limited production model, The Release Series 3.0. This limited edition xD is fitted with a JDM style four-piece body kit (front air dam, rocker-sill side skirts, and rear spoiler), a carbon fiber B-pillar appliqué, plus carbon-fiber-like trim. Only 1500 xD RS 3.0, painted in xPRESSO exterior color, will be produced.

The interior of the 2011 Scion xD is all shades of dark gray and matte metal. Climate and entertainment controls flow logically down the center stack. The instrument cluster of the xD is divided into three partitions. The speedometer and tachometer share the middle partition with auxiliary information (fuel, odometer, check engine lights, etc.) assigned to the left and right partitions of the instrument cluster.

The standard audio system inside the 2011 tD is a 300 watt eight-speaker Pioneer AM/FM/CD head unit with USB iPod connectivity. The optional premium Alpine audio system features a 4.3-inch color touch-panel screen, HD radio, Media Expander (MX), and front and rear RCA outputs. Alpine's MX Improves compressed audio sound of digital music. The optional Alpine audio system is also navigation and back-up camera ready.

The 2011 Scion xD features antilock brakes with brake assist, stability control, front seat side airbags, full-length side curtain airbags and front active head restraints.

The 2011 Scion xD has not yet been rated using the government's new, more strenuous 2011 crash tests. According to its 2010 ratings (which aren't comparable to 2011 scores) the xD received four stars for frontal impacts and a perfect five stars for side impacts. In Insurance Institute for Highway Safety crash testing, the xD was deemed "Acceptable" (the second-highest score) in frontal-offset crashes and "Good" (the highest score) in side-impact crashes.
