For the 2011 lineup of the Volvo XC70, shoppers can look forward to a front-wheel-drive option, an MSRP that has been slashed by a few thousand dollar and boosted horsepower for both of its trim levels.
The in-line 6-cylinder engine of the current 3.2 FWD model produces 240 horsepower, which is up by 5 compared to 2010’s 235, and 236 pound-feet of torque. Meanwhile, the turbocharged 6-cylinder of the T6 AWD makes--from 281--300 horsepower and 325 pound-feet of torque.
With a starting price of $32,150 for the 3.2 and $38,200 for the T6, the XC70 is cheaper than many of its rivals. Does that mean more bang for your buck in this five-seat automatic? The turbocharged engine of the T6 may make up for the uninspired performance of the base trim but its 17/22 MPG fuel economy is disappointing.
While a smooth ride, the XC70 is not that fun to drive, says Edmunds, because its “light steering, ample body roll and elevated center of gravity make it feel less nimble than past Volvo wagons.” When it comes to looks and design, though, the XC70 stands out, with its elegant, Scandinavian interior. It’s “easy to master its multitude of controls and it’s simpler and more efficient than many of its European luxury competitors,” says AOL Autos. This crossover also “has impressive space for passengers and for their belongings. The front seats are typically cozy, in the Volvo idiom,” notes Car Connection.
In addition to a polished interior, excellent seats and ample room, the XC70 also boasts numerous styling accessories and tech and safety features. These include power driver’s seat with memory, Bluetooth, satellite radio, an 8-speaker audio system with an MP3- and WMA-compatible CD player, skid plates, roof rails, an anti-skid system, side positioning lights, whiplash protection, and front and side airbags.
