Ford Mustang Sports

Ford Mustang Sports

DESCRIPTION

Pros:

  • Muscular V6 and V8 engines
  • Handling prowess of a true sports car
  • Available performance customization options
  • Ford's SYNC system
  • Best value in its class
Cons:
  • Owning a Mustang will not place you in an exclusive club
  • No telescoping steering wheel
  • A few cheap plastic interior pieces
Ruling: The 2011 Ford Mustang raises the bar with its 305-horsepower V6 engine.

For 2011, the Ford Mustang gets a power increase of 95 ponies and 40 pound-feet of torque. Plus, its steering and suspension settings have been tweaked for optimal performance giving the Mustang added agility to its already strong handling performance. With an EPA-estimated 31 mpg on the highway, the Mustang can achieve good fuel economy if driven very lightly.

Model Reviewed: Mustang V6

Strength:

** Better than expected handling
** V8 power in a V6 package
** Lots of options available to customize and separate your 'Stang from the herd

Weakness:

** Fuel economy numbers are misleading
** Heavy clutch
** Seats lack support
** Ugly and outdated information display

Ford continues to raise the bar and the increase the fun factor with the Mustang. Initially the Mustang feels large and cumbersome, but handling is sharp and steering feedback is good. I'm amazed how well the Mustang can carve up my favorite twisty route home.

Drivers with heavy feet will have to visit the gas pump often. The optimistic EPA fuel economy ratings are only good if you drive at Prius speeds and let grandma beat you off the line as she speeds off to Target.

The interior is classic Mustang, but the blue LED display is beyond classic and really needs to go away.
