"One of the highlights besides the Escape’s stellar fuel economy is its redesigned interior. The boxy, square-jawed dashboard exudes the interior found in Ford’s full-size trucks..."
Strengths: Workmanship, body integrity, fit & finish, mileage, acceleration, drivetrain, passenger & cargo room, quite, comfort, and value.
Weaknesses: Engines (4 & 6) are a bit noisy on hard acceleration.
Summary: Owned Japanese cars since 1975, most recently an Infiniti Q45t. Wanted a small SUV - tried EX35, RAV4, Rogue and Santa Fe. They all had their pros and cons, but I kept looking. Stopped by the local Ford dealer, even though I had't been impressed with them since my 1965 Mustang (which I loved). Drove a 4cyl and 6cyl Escape. Liked them both. Chose the 4cyl, as I was suprised by the acceleration, smooth 6 speed tranny and gas mileage. The Limited FWD with Moon & Tune package has most every goodie you could want. Also got the side step bars, although I probably didn't need them. The vehicle rides more like a truck than a car, but is relatively quiet, smooth and stable. Maneuvers well and doesn't feel top-heavy - steering is precise. NAV, Sirius Radio/Travel Link, phone (Bluetooth) and audio/CD/DVD functions are all voice activated and controlled. The sound quality is great - as good as the Bose system in the Infiniti. The leather seats are very comfortable. Front and rear leg room is more than adequate. Rear seating is much more comfortable than the EX35, Rogue and Rav4. Usable cargo room is also better than those vehicles. NHSTA 5 star ratings with curtain airbags front and rear. Overall, this was the best value of the bunch and Ford's quality, fit & finish and attention to detail was impressive. Consumer Reports ratings bear this out.

Strengths: Great audio and navigation system. Milage is OK (compared to the Hybrid)
Weaknesses: None
Summary: I owned a 2008 Escape Hybrid with out the Sync system. Traded that in for a 2010 Escape LTD FWD and it's great! Milage is not as good as the Hybrid but is OK (21-14 MPG). I'm very happy with this purchase

Strengths: Mileage is pretty good for a vehicle of its size
Weaknesses: Noisy, drives like a pickup
Summary: My first Ford purchase in many years and boy, am I sorry. The engine noise from this vehicle (4 cyl.) is unbelievably loud, constant ticking sounds from engine compartment (which Ford tells me is "normal") and almost no insulation from outside noise. I would never recommend anyone purchase this vehicle.

Weaknesses: Transmission was erratic when first purchased, thought I got a lemon. Then got the recall and it still is awful. Jerks when you shift. Gas pedal doesn't respond to foot pressure adequately. Car shakes at a stop. Pops into gear on occasion when putting in reverse. The transmission is a complete mess. I have driven a Mercury Mariner with the smaller engine and it did not act like this at all. Now I am stuck with a balance of over $20,000 and a car I feel unsafe in and I feel like I am on a carnival ride. Not a pleasure to drive. Very, very disappointed in this piece of junk.
Summary: Do not purchase this vehicle. You will waste your money and have much frustration.Shame on Ford for even selling this!
