Strength:

Fits 8 passengers comfortably.

Weakness:

Electrical failures.

Purchased this car brand new and have lost electric to my rearview mirror and driver side visor. Most recently for the past year have had ongoing issues with misfiring while accelerating. First fix was to change plugs, that worked for a bit, but now having the same issue and cannot find the cause. It's very frustrating to have a fairly expensive vehicle run like this after 2 years. Just to mention, the truck is regularly maintained. I can say with confidence that my next vehicle will NOT be a ford.

Strength:

This is a great truck: good response, comfortable seats, lots of cupholders, but the third row is the best! I have owned every American made 8 passenger SUV...they can't hold a candle to the EL...adults wouldn't know they were in a third row. I also love how easily the 2nd row seats fold up when you need to move them out of the way.

Weakness:

The light carpet is difficult as a mom with 3 little boys. There are days in every season that mud is a uninvitable guest and keeping the pretty carpet clean was a difficult task. We looked for some type of floor carpet system, but nothing was available and the little ones don't stay in place very well with kids jumping around.

If you are looking for a great family truck for travelling long distances and in town, this is it. Very roomy and comfortable. But on the same not this truck was obviously made for families so I can't figure out why you can't listen to the radio in the front seat while the kids are watching a video in the back...and not with headphones...3 year olds don't wear headphones!

Strength:

strong good looks
fantastic interior
very quiet powertrain
6 speed automatic!

Weakness:

no HID light option
no wood leather steering wheel option on eddie bauer model

Had a 2005 expedition previous to this one, and in my opinion Ford got it right with the updated body style. Interior is much nicer to look at, great use of two tone colors and materials, updated touch screen navigation is a must have. A/C seats also a must have for those hot summer days. 36,000 miles now on the clock and no issues what-so-ever. The only gripe i have (if most would even consider this a gripe) is a lack of a wood / leather steering wheel on the eddie bauer model and lack of HID headlight option. I just think the wood wheel would have been the final touch to the interior. But i suppose customers with the limited model must have something over the rest of us right?

Strength:

comfort, appearance, features.

Weakness:

"Phone" button does not work. Will never work, has no interface nor link to make it work. It's strictly fraud.

Great vehicle except Ford is committing fraud selling navigation radios with "phone" botton implying the radio is adaptable to or has bluetooth to operate a phone. It does not. It does nothing. Ford has not intention of making it work. Just false advertising.

Plenty room to haul 4 kids, radio, good on long trips.

Weakness:

Gas milage,brake dust,vibration in front,tires roar,rotors warp easily.Cheap thin leather,lacking horse power,need I go on

Bought new,got a pretty good deal,it only has 18k miles on it now but the 2 front captian chairs leather was crappy and thin and had to go through a act on Congress to get it changed at 10k.With 12k the 2nd rows bench seats started to crack, another act of Congress with Ford even though still under warranty. They replaced the middle seat since it was showing more wear and the other 2 hadn't reached Fords criteria to be changed. Now it 18k warranty went out 6-19 and now the other 2 seat needs to be changed but Ford won't fix it because it is out of warrany, they asked me why wasn't it changed with the rest of the seats I told them they were trying to stall until it was out of warranty and knew is was going to happen. If anyone has had the same issue and can help email me.

Strength:

Very versatle.Unstopable 4 wheel drive.Comfortable.Large cargo capacity.

Weakness:

Gas mileage poor.In mountain areas requires premium gas.

I purchased this truck used.It has been very reliable overall with no real complaints. The truck is unstopable in snow. It presently hit the 130000 mile mark. Minor problems in which I have repaired myself. Gas mileage is very poor but to be exspected on a truck this size. I have used this truck as a work horse and it has a ton of room. Brake dust can be cured with quiet stop brake pads.Mine has the 4.6 v8 which in tall hills can be slightly underpowered. I recommend the bigger engine especially if your towing. This is the most comfortable truck I have ever owned. I have had this truck 4.5 years.

brakes on the Expedition

211,000 miles - never a problem -change the oil, watch the fluids - brakes are a problem - 7 front (plus a siezed rotor) 6 rear - but, changing them myself not a big deal. Runs like a dream - full confidence. Have another ' 83 Ford F-
250 350K miles - says alot for the brand.

Model Reviewed: Expedition EB 4X4

Strength:

Good smooth ride, responsive steering, nice looking car. Like dual climate control and how rear window vents open. No major problems with car, been pretty reliable and I have 65,000 miles on mine. decent visibility, feels like a safe car, many safety features.

Weakness:

Brake dust on front is horrible. not comfortable, lacks power, do not get the sense it is durable in you can go off road (except maybe a gravel road) and it would not harm the truck. some rattles, not comfortable on long drives, not a car that I get the feeling would be a good idea to own past 90,000 miles. Car does not hold its value like others and this model is due for a design change within 2 years I believe.

Bought the car with 17,000 miles on it, not bad for car that sold for 50K new. Drivers side door rattles, had it fixed once, a year later sound was back...out of warranty of course.

Car drives great, very smooth and steering is good. Nice upgrade in ride from '99 Expedition. Down side is even with the 5.4 the power is not very good. Leather is cheap, driver side is cracking and I regularly clean and condition the leather. 2nd row seating has very little leg room, its amazing, I am 6'1" and when I sit in back, I had more leg room in my '93 Pathfinder's back seat...seriously. Doors close but light sometimes does not go off and dash says light is on from time to time, then it figures it out and all is well. Rear brakes went out, think it was due to girlfriend driving car with e-brake on...but tell me, what good is an e-brake if you can drive with it on? Seems like if its engaged, the car should not move, call me crazy. Front brakes, huge amounts of dust come from them. I can wash my car, and by the time I get home, the wheels have the first layer of brake dust, within a day it looks terrible. Replacing them today, keep a close eye on them in hot envoronments. DVD is nice, auto folding back seats nice, good stereo. Navigation is hit and miss, sometimes it is inaccurate and has me about .5 miles off on the map from where I really am. Graphics do not hold a candle to what I have seen in Acura or Range Rover, but its still nice. Arm rest lacks function, need more storage spaces for things like wallet, phone, etc. Easily clutters now. The mirrors do not work well in reverse, best to leave that one off, same with auto memory settings, it creates more problems than it solves. The back up sensor is kind of helpful, but worthless once you get 4' and in when backing up since the sound is the same at 4' and 4". Keyless remote sometimes does not work on any door but drivers door. Seats really are not very comfortable. For a car that is really for road trips, all of the seating is really not comfortable. The front seats are firm, flat, and not many adjustments. And whats up with the clearance? This car is not an off roader, it is best for the highway and moderate snow. Tows pretty well too. One more think, this is a biggie. I keep seeing in the paper 2006 Expeditions for $26,000. Now I am sure those are base models and only one in stock, but ok...get an XLT new with options for $30K? They are dropping the price of their new cars and it kills any resale on mine. Likely because of rental returns, but also because they want to sell new cars. Well, even at 30K, in 3 years, that car is going to be worth $10K. These cars do not hold their value as is, mix in the manufacturer now trying to give them away...or you need to think, if you buy new today, we are likely 1-2 years away from Ford changing the body style of the Expedition, which will make your new car drop even more in value.
