Ford Escape SUV | Crossover

Ford Escape SUV | Crossover

DESCRIPTION

Pros:

  • Above average fuel economy with 4-cylinder engine
  • Lively performance
  • Innovative list of standard and optional high-tech features
  • High crash test scores
Cons:
  • Box-ish design and interior ergonomics are getting old
  • Folding rear seat is cumbersome
  • Too much body roll and choppy ride
Ruling: A great marriage of high-tech options and four-wheel drive capability of a traditional SUV with size, practicality and driving characteristics of a midsize car.

The 2011 Ford Escape is available in three trims -- the base XLS, XLT and top-of-the-line Limited. An all-wheel drive system is optional. The Escape also comes in a hybrid version, which is reviewed separately and costs $9,000 more than the gas-only Escape.

Options available on the 2011 Escape include Ford’s SYNC in-car entertainment system, active park assist which can parallel park the car with little driver involvement and MyKey, a programmable key which can set a speed limit on your Escape among other things.
