Good comfy functional SUV

Weakness:

Hard to see blind spot when merging diagonally onto roads

Bought my truck used (95k km) from a friend who took good care of it when he owned it. Had common driveline clunk problem many others have described. I diagnosed the problem to be worn out U-joint and fixed it myself (plus free help from dealer to press out the OEM U-joint-thanks!). When I got it off, one shaft of U-joint was worn to 50% dia and needle bearings were nonexistent. Nothing else wrong with the truck, original Wrangler A/T S still have 50% tread left, not great for icy roads. Everything else working great on my truck. Good truck if you take care of it, in my mind (unless I was lucky and got a really good one).

the jimmy is a very nice riding suv.

Weakness:

first week and already had four things wrong with it. It shouldn't of even passed safey the way it is.

I bought the jimmy a week ago. My first drive to work I noticed the switch was starting to go for the power mirrors. the front bearing is starting to have a growl in it, the front stut is making a poping noise. and exacly a week later my wife went in for her g2 and the #@$%*#@ brake lights were not working properly. Other than that the four wheel drive sure makes for a nice drive in the snow. It rides nise and the seats are very comfortable.

Its a GMC

My 2001 GMC Jimmy is a huge dissapointment. This machine is nothing more than a rolling pile of misalligned ,underengineered, pieces of trash. The only thing that hasnt failed is the glass. At 50k miles the transmission went out totally, by 80k miles I have replaced so many parts and pieces that I dont have the space to list them all. I believe this vehicle would be better suited as a boat anchor for the Titanic.

THE GM JIMMY IT SELF, AND RON MAY PONTIACS NEW MANAGER

,stearing SHAFT REPLACED,AIR BAG COIL REPLACED AND ADJUSTED BOOT OUT OF PLACE, REPLACED FRONT AXLE SEAL replaced,WIPER MOTOR PART REPLACED, tire shimmey for 2 and 1/2/ years and was told after i don't know how many wheel balancing that it was |An inherited problem , I finally changed the 4 tires @ my own cost and it rides smooth now. My emergency brake never worked in reverse for 2 1/2 years there new manager actually got in behind the drivers seat in front of my eyes, put the jimmy in reverse... the jimmy went backwards without any effort. he THEN jumped out of the truck, he looked at me straight in the eye, and said the emergency brake worked fine,I guess we have liers in CApe Breton . when I contacted G.M. they took his word and did nothing. I now have my drivers side door squeeking so bad I think its going to fall off, im lubercating it every 3 days. I now have my bumper rusting , what the hell did I buy? 62000 KM

Strength:

Price, 4 by 4 high and low range.

Weakness:

Average gas mileage, slightly underpowered and very little storage space hindered by the inside storage of the spare tire.

I have had this vehicle for 2.5 years and have had no problems with it. It gets average mileage and while it is no Honda or Toyota it has served me well. It is a discontinued model so I got it for substantially less than retail.

comfy white elephant.

Weakness:

would you like to see my bank account? - it's as empty as the GM Name.

garbage - absolute garbage vehicle. i hope gm goes down in smoke once and for all.

Hubs needed replacing, bearings as well. New tierods - all of them. I'm on the second idle arm (warranty on this part is one year) in 3 years. The alternator went after 3 years. Just a piece of junk, worth nothing.

118,000 km on it - i barely drive it and when i'm do it's long distances.

they built these truck to break down, put garbage parts together and i'd be surprised if the factory workers did just sleep one off during every shift.

the engineers who designed this thing were doing so as a joke i'm sure.

most of the issues i've had (to pay for) with this vehicle despite regular maintenance have been structural design flaw - heavy engine, poor tie-rods and support. i'm giving up and actually going green. i don't drive the thing and it breaks down...gm is getting (yet another)a letter from me.

my next car is a lil Yaris - i'm done with american designed and made crap.

Strength:

The vehicle looks good, seats are ok to sit in for long trips. I get decent fuel mileage and its easy on the wallet.

Weakness:

I think the engine is under powered for the size of the vehicle. I get tossed around on the highway when it is windy outside. The vehicle can be noisy on the highway. The fuel tank is small (60L) so you have to fill up frequently. Its a smaller vehicle and I have had problems fitting normal things into the back of the truck.

I have had my Jimmy just over 2 years and have amassed 115K km. I haven't had any serious problems as of yet. I had a small leak in the oil coolant line and I think that I may need to replace the ball joints. I do regular maintenance on the truck and am happy so far.

Strength:

Powerful engine plenty of interior cargo room.

Weakness:

Mileage, deteriorating paint.

I am the 3rd owner of my Jimmy. The last owner was a co-worker of mine and when he sold it to me it was at 90K miles. He got it a year before at 60K. It's been 3 miles and 130K and it has performed reliably.

Problems noted:

I needed to have the alternator replaced at 100K. The water pump and radiator at 110 (plugged up horribly, which happened after a radiator flush). Brakes (front and rear) at 130k. I consider it par for the course. I had to get the radiator hose replaced when it got loose and got too close to the alternator blades (had the mechanic secure it more tightly.)

The ceiling carpeting had started to come loose, the drivers door latch has loosened and the A/C system has a leak. It's annoying, but not threatening. I'll probably have it fixed. The paint job has already gone in spots and rust has started. Thank God, I live in Southern California. The driver's window (manual) has started sticking also. The gas fuel gauge is reading high. The Jimmy has a tendency to fishtail and nose dive in an emergency brake situation.

Pros:

The V-6 engine is reliable. Plenty of torque and power to spare to haul stuff up inclines. The back has enough room to place a quarter ton (actual weight) of stuff inside. Typical average mileage for me is 17-19 mpg. I drive most freeway and empty. I had noticed mileage goes down to about 14 mpg when I haul stuff around. Engine noise is noticeable at highway speeds.

Why is it lasting longer and more reliably than most of the Jimmy's I've read? Some possible answers:

The model I got is a much simpler version. The only thing that's has motors is the power mirrors. So lessthings to brake Also the less weight places less strain on the suspension.

Also the driving habits of owners. The original driver drove it a total of 12 miles to work. The 2nd and current owners (me) don't push their vehicles hard. I drive like an old lady. Plus a majority of the miles I put in are highway miles.

In my case also, I follow an agressive maintenance program.

What I'm wondering now is when to have the engine rebuilt? 160k-180k? I'd rather have it done then than wait for it to break down.

So all in all, a good solid vehicle for the work I do. Given the horror stories I've heard from the others concerning Jimmy's of other years, I may not buy another, but stick with this one.
