Price Paid:  $35000.00 from Online

Year / Model Reviewed:
1996 H! 4Dr Softop

Summary:
All around a pretty good truck, starts every time and gets me there and back. Best feature as with any unique vehicle is that it is just that, unique with only 12,000 sold to public. I like the collectablity and fact that it is easy to work on it. I have had to do about as much repoair as any American made vehicle that is 10 years old and 63k miles on it. Fortunatly it has a GM 350 gas motor so parts are easy to get at Napa and there is nothing overly complicated on it. It is true that nothing else really compares to it on or off the road, sort of a King in a land of crappy small Jeeps and wannabees trying to make production trucks into something that they were never designed to be. I get5 the sense that the original poster with the Jeep Rubicon has to decide between paying rent or getting the latest bolt on part from JC Whittney... Maybe some stylish neon accents... In the world of sportscars their are many contendors, but with offroad, Hummer H1 stands alone...

Strengths:
Unique
Limited supply
Easy to work on

Weaknesses:
Heater Core Assembly not servicable pre 1997 and a pain in the ass to fix it it can be fixed.

People who can't afford them prefer Jeeps

Price Paid:  $1.00

Year / Model Reviewed:
2000 H1

Summary:
I went to the Lynch Hummer "Stupid Hummer Tricks" webpages and it just reinforced my beliefs. Those pictures might look hairy. Well, they are. That's my point. You'll see the H1 on 2 wheels a LOT. Uh, that's NOT a good thing. That's called lack of wheel travel therefore a lack of traction and stability. It's a good thing H1s come with a winch because driving like this is going to require constant use of it. This brings me to my point. My Jeep Rubicon could do all this and more... (bone stock) much faster and much safer. Once you get a little off-roading experience you will realize that the terrain you see these Hummers on, for the most part, isn't even challenging. You wouldn't even need all that the top-of-the-line Rubicon has to offer. In fact, a Jeep Wrangler Sport with a $600 3" lift kit would embarrass these $100,000+ elephants. I've seen Toyota trucks from the 80's do WAY more. But at least the H1s are diesel machines which would allow use of biodiesel. And I know all H1 owners are using nothing but biodiesel, right? There's the saving grace. But hey, H1's are attention-getters that use biodiesel. If there are any H1 owners on Oahu, Hawaii that would like to do a side-by-side comparison off-road vs. my Jeep, please email me. I suspect my Jeep could do more without even locking the differentials. Oh yeah, Jeeps can easily cruise on the freeway at 85mph with stability and lots of engine rpm to spare...

Strengths:
Looks, comes with winch, biodiesel, good for paths, roomy interior, undercarriage clearance, lots of torque for towing/rescue.

Weaknesses:
Heavy, fuel-hungry, too much wheelbase and track for challenging trails, sorry articulation, top speed, stability at freeway speed, durability, price.

1998 Jeep Wrangler Sahara
2004 Jeep Rubicon
2004 Jeep Rubicon w/6" lift long arm/triangulated rear suspension modification. Many other mods.

1993 HUMMER H1

Summary:
WOW! I picked up my HUMMER at Denver and had to drive 1,200 miles to get home. The engine "hums" and it makes a lot of noise, but every mile was worth it even though my whole body still aches one week later. Everywhere I go people turn heads and a couple of time we almost caused accidents. My HUMMER has a set of after market K-O tires on it. Although I do have a set of super swarmpers too but I have never experienced them. It has a new 6.5 Engine rahter than the original 6.2; new tranny and new exhaust; basically a new set of powertrain system. It rides nicely at lower speed and it handles surprisingly well. All and all, I like this truck a lot and will write another update once I have put some miles on it and maintenance starts to kick in. (to report the maintenance costs) Stay tuned...

Strengths:
Great truck to own if one can afford one Styling of the truck is unmistakable Attracts envious and jealouse looks Nice low-end power 4x4 abilities are parallel to none others

Weaknesses:
Definitely not for highway driving

Similar Products Used:
Jeep Wrangler Bronco

2000 Hummer H1

Summary:
It took my son about a year to convince me that the H1 was the real deal. I like so may other though that the H1 was a big over rated truck. He would show me everything he could find on the H1. He showed me some of the things that the H1 was capable of doing and I was floored. If you want to see go to Jim Lynch Hummers website and look up stupid Hummer tricks. So one afternoon we went to Lynch Hummer in O'fallon, MO and test drove a 1999 4 door hard top. It was love at first sight. As the salesman pulled the H1 to the door for us to get in you could feel the power of the engine. The thing that shocked me the most was that it did not ride like the tank that so many people reported in their review. It does take a little while to get used to the truck being so wide, but worth the time it takes. I drove to Texas to pick up my black Wagon. The drive back was more than enough time to get accustomed to the truck. It got 13 miles to the gallon driving back at an average speed of 70 mile an hour. I know that the milage is less in town but not an issue with me. If you want to dance you have to pay the fiddler. It is hard to discribe the feeling of driving the H1 as you look out over the huge hood with the 2 hooks coming out of the middle. You feel safe to say the least. Very impressed with the stereo that they install at the factory. It will rock all you want. The CTIS is really neat also, we deflated our tires while driving over some rough highways in Oklahoma. Just push a couple of buttons and out goes the air and what a difference in the ride. I drive a Porsche 911 also and the ride in the H1 is no worse than the 911. Overall I am very happy with the H1. It can be a little tricky to park in tight spots, but once again if you want to dance you have to pay the fiddler. If you want a toy and turns head and is lots of fun to play with the H1 is what you need. I got an extended warranty with Exotic Warranties. They are about the only ones that offer and extended warranty for the H1. Insurance is a little high but not too bad. The guy I bught mine from took out the interior lights and replace them with red bulbs. It is really neat at night when you open the doors and see teh red in the cab. He left the overhead toggle light stock in case you need to read something.

Strengths:
Massive Safety Mobility Looks Presence

Weaknesses:
Hard to park. I just park where there are not a lot of other cars around.
