Strength:

It is Japanese. Great pickup. Logical instrumentation. CD works great, just don't stick an analog CD into it or you will replace. That is the stand alone CD writers not computer writers. Larger rear cargo than most its size. Tows 5K v. 3500lbs for the Lexus RX 300. Headlights. Anti-roll braking system (first year).

Weakness:

Rear Drum Brakes, Gas Mileage could be better but I like the power, Turning Radius not as good as my Ford (Fix Or Repair Daily) Explorer 1997. Can only load about 850 in the car itself.

Bot from Infiniti Tustin, was great to buy from them. They took my calls after I buy. Have had the car for 12K. It drives wonderfully. It brakes great. The interior is logical and well thought out. The leather is of good quality and not super soft like the LEXUS 300 which could tear. The fake plastic wood fakes people out. This site lumps in the pre 2001 with the 2001 - 2003, that is a mistake. I am 6'0 and 185.The seats are totally automatic and even a friend who was 6'3" liked driving it and also fit in the back seat. In case you did not know, the back seat tilts back to give extra room. It has been rated worse than the Lexus RX 300 for rear leg room, but this is because the Lexus has such small seats that your legs overhang but the specs show it has more room when in actuality it is close to the same and the Infiniti has much more comfortable front and rear seats if you are over 5'5". Cruise works well. It feels like a luxury car not a truck, like the Ford Explorer. I believe there will be very few repairs up into at least the 200K range based on some feedback from service guys. The 4-wheel drive has 4 Auto which allows you to drive on the freeway in the rain. You do not lose traction during rain and I would guess since Infiniti has been doing it awhile it is better than the Lexus. Came with most everything on it one would option. Sharp looking. Outweighs the bigger Ford Explorer '97 by 500 lbs. even thought it is smaller. No car is pefect but sofar as riding, handling, braking, interior room, comfort, innovation, reliabilty, safety and value, even with the less than great premium gas mileage, I doubt there is a better option for the money. For the three big Japanese auto companies, Infiniti is the most up to date. The back door latch on my car was recently put on the Toyota. The rollover safety mechanism was added to the Lexus I believe a year later and I don't think it was standard.

Weakness:

needs rear disc brakes

I have used this car as a show car over the past 4 years with a 4000 watt sound system in it. with over 100 shows and 155 thousand miles it still runs great. Never in the shop for maint. Just oil changes. I would not advise 22 inch wheels as it is hard in the brakes.
