Strength:

Purchased new in 2004 and continue to love this car. Retired, I don't drive as much but nearing 50K miles have never had it in the shop for anything other than regular maintenance and new tires and battery. People think it is a luxurious new car and often ask me who makes it. I tell them Subaru in Lafayette, Indiana. The styling seemed a bit radical in 2004, but now so many other makers have come out with a similar style. I enjoy better gas mileage than many other SUVs on the market, average 22 mpg on the highway. The fuel injected engine gives me plenty of power when I need it for passing other vehicles. It provides a comfortable ride.

Weakness:

My only complaint is that with long legs, I wish I could move the driver's seat back farther. Wish the steering wheel had tilt too, as I have some trouble getting my arthritic legs in and out. Once situated, I am comfortable. Headroom is fine.

One of the best vehicles I've owned and I've driven several dozen brands in my 56 years behind the wheel. Wish Isuzu had not pulled out of the U.S. market as the dealership has closed. I've not needed any new parts and only hoping they will be available.

Strength:

This SUV looks like its a million dollars, it is very appealing to the eye, with it being discontinued and there are fewer and fewer on the road. This sporty SUV will have bystanders confuesed and get alot of talk going around the town.

Weakness:

No third row seating, maybe hard to find parts in the future. You will have to purchase rims for this to get the full effect of this factory chrome OEM which comes on every AXIOM. No Air vents for the passangers, they are on the floor dirrect under driver and passanger seats.

Great SUV, Ride quality is not too stiff but not all over the place on the freeway. Its powerful V6 Direct Injection engine allows a economical, reasonable, miles to the gallon to standout among the vehicles in its class in 2004. Its solid body is the key to a quite smooth ride so the kids can rest on road trips. A brilliant dash display instrument panal is easy on the eyes and very easy to read for all drivers allowing this to be a nice smooth ride and my favorite in its class for this year and model.

Looks awesome, some very cool features, Brauny acceleration

Weakness:

TRANSMISSIONS!, High $$ prices for parts, tires squeal on sharp turns (vehicle natural), dashboard is kinda tacky....they could have done a better job arranging things for better access....like the radio controls mixed with temp controls....c'mon, front seats are fit for...a Hyundai

I just bought my Axiom knowing that it sliped a lil. My solution was change the transmission filter and fluid and it would be golden like all my other cars. WRONG. My car is in the shop with a $2400 transmission rebuild price. Everything else is in tacked but judging by all the other reviews, im starting to get a lil jittery, like im in over my head. Very interesting fact I found out though, Isuzu uses GM transmissions, but charges isuzu prices....just cause they can get away with it. Its alot more than poor quality going on here my friends, its corporate america at its best. In retrospect, I would have deffinatley stayed away from this vehicle, and from now on, Ill just stay away from Isuzu AND GM too.

I love everyday I use this vehicle. I do have a few things that I hate about it. It was my mother's car until recently and she had the majority of issues with it. For example the transmission had to be replaced at 60k and the there was an issue with a sensor in the bumper. Currently I have to pay 500 dollars for a new rear wiper because it died at 70K. My only other issue with this good SUV was maintinace. I have brought this vehicle to five different dealers to have oil changes and other work done to it. It is a pleasure to drive everyday. It has great acceleration and I get positive feedback from my friends on the looks of it. The front seating is very good with plenty of room, but the rear has very little leg room. My Axiom has leather seats which help with comfort and the sound system is great. It is worth it if you buy it used.

Transmission, transmission...oh and the transmission

Purchased the Axiom (aka: P.O.S) in February 2005 used w/ 67kmi from a Toyota dealership here in Gainesville, GA. It was the Axiom -vs- Lexus RX300 with more miles - now I wish I would have gone for the Lexus. The car has been absolutley wonderful until February 21 of this year. On my way back from a concert in ATL, just 5mi away from the apartment and the car won't go any faster than 65mph and pushing 5,000 RPM'S. We pull over to see a big cloud of smoke swoosh out from under the car, try cranking it to get it a little further off the side of the road and it won't go into any gear. We let it sit for about 45mins and were able to drive it home at about 10-20mph to park it. Noticed it was leaking transmission fluid, aside from the obvious drip, it was all over the back of the car. Had to bring my 1995 Pontiac Firebird out of retirement to replace this stupid Axiom. 2 weeks later after contemplating what to do, we try putting some transmission fluid in it and cranking it to see if it was low on fluid....exnay. Didn't work. We debated whether to fix it or trade it and take the hit with the bad equity. We had it towed to a dealership (as my eyes are now set on a Pontiac Torrent) but they just weren't going to give enough for the car - which is expected as the trade in value is NOTHING for this vehicle anyway. So now we've decided to go ahead and just get it fixed. I'm at 95,500 miles and hopefully after replacing or fixing the damn transmission I can drive it for a little longer and then trade it in.

I'm so disappointed - this was my first car I BOUGHT MYSELF and it's a piece of crap

This car is a piece of crap. As long as you are on a perfectly flat road, there were no indications of any possible potential transmission problems. A seal had to be replaced about 4 months ago. Last weekend while driving through the totally uninhabited mountains of Maryland, the gages started racing back and forth and suddenly dark fluid shot out from the rear underneath of the car and it died. On the top of the mountain. In the middle of nowhere. Had it towed to nearest service location, then to trans specialist - needs complete replacement. Cost is astronomical - and car is 180 miles from home. Please find the car and burn it to the ground asap -$$$$$ Reward to whomever wants the job.

Transmission, electrical systems, gas mileage, interior leg room, can't find parts for them when you need them (and you will need them), Isuzu Motors of America, Inc.

Definitely built on a Monday....a rainy, stormy Monday. We purchased the 02 Ax (2WD) used in July '04. At the time it had 44K miles. Things were great at first, except for the Isuzu's out-of-control fuel addiction, but as in any new relationship, you are willing to overlook certain things.

Had no problems for about a year until the passenger side window decides to work only on an intermittent basis (window doesn't roll down when it is warm weather). Not too big of a deal until the engine starts stalling for no reason at all. Isuzu dealer (the ONLY one in the area and one of only FOUR in Alabama -another thing that steams me) recommended a new engine harness which I can only assume is a complete wiring harness. This work, as it was not covered by the vehicle's powertrain warranty (nothing is, really) could be done for a nominal $1100, but the airflow meter, per the diagnostic computer also needed to be replaced and that would bring the total to a very affordable $1600. (Note: after market airflow meters can be purchased all day long at your local auto parts store for about $120-150).

The Ax eventually begins to behave very badly and sometimes does not want to run at all. When this happens, there is a light on that says "Reduced Power" as if you couldn't tell by the fact that you can only go about 5 mph. That problem only seems to happen when you leave the car idling for several minutes at a time. Given the Axiom's costly fuel addiction and my aversion to walking when I could be driving, we try not to let the engine idle for long periods of time.

Last, but not least, around 65K (5K after powertrain expired, as we were not original owners)the transmission begins to slip and then slam into gear, causing the vehicle to shudder and sometimes causing the rear tires to "screech" as the tranny re-engages. Not real cool, and probably expensive to fix. The transmission also downshifts every time you go down a slight hill and will not shift up again until you accelerate, forcing the RPMs up to the shift point. Anyone have any ideas about this? Tranny fluid has been checked, and is not low.

Oh...almost forgot to mention that I have started noticing a popping sound coming from the left front wheel. Presumably, the strut going bad. I have been told to expect that repair to run around $1000 to fix.

Now, if the air conditioner will just stop working, I will have the complete package.

I wish I had never seen this vehicle. I pray every night for someone to steal this car and burn it until there is nothing left of it. Any takers? Possible cash reward for those who show interest.
