Review 1 of 629

Price Paid:  $38500.00 from Courtesy Jeep of San

Year / Model Reviewed:
2008 Grand Cherokee Limite4d

Summary:
Quite impressed with all the amenities to include bluetooth, Navigation, DVD, rear parking camera, hard drive, etc. However I believe the engine to be louder than past SUV's I have owned not to mention much smaller. If you are looking for a roomy vehicle (something similiar to a Durango) this is not the vehicle for you. The rear seating is quite cramped and the overall feel of the vehicle is more like a car and not an SUV. Having traded in a 2004 Durango for it, I personally have not experienced massive savings at the pump.
If I had to do again, I would not purchase this vehicle.

Strengths:
The technology in this vehicle is amazing. The windshield wipers are automatic; and not only does it tells you that the tire pressure is low but also gives you the actual values for each tire!

Weaknesses:
Its small. The DVD obstructs the rear view. Back seat okay for small child. Difficult for three adults or even one adult seated next to a car seat. We have one two year old but will likely have to trade this vehicle in should we decide to extend our family.

Review 2 of 629

Price Paid:  $17000.00 from Used

Year / Model Reviewed:
2007 Laredo

Summary:
We have the 4.7L V8 Flex Fuel motor Laredo, and got a good deal on it used. However, the gas mileage on this vehicle is heinously bad (about 13 mpg), and there are huge, dangerous 'blind spots' on the two front pillars where the windshield meets the dashboard. The ride is smooth and firm, and fit and finish are otherwise OK. If we had known the mileage would be so terrible, we would not have bought the vehicle. This is a prime reason why foreign made vehicle have surpassed American ones. While other same sized SUV's are 6 cylinders, and get 19 to 22 mpg, this gas guzzler has 8, and gets 13 mpg. Why couldn't Chrysler/Jeep have done the same?

Strengths:
Fit and finish is very good. The ride is smooth yet firm, more like a car than an SUV. Looks nice.

Weaknesses:
Gas mileage is horrendously bad!

Review 3 of 629

Price Paid:  $29500.00 from Adamson Motors, Roch

Year / Model Reviewed:
2007 Jeep Gr Cherokee Laredo 4WD 4.7L V8

Summary:
We bought a loaded Jeep Gr Cherokee Laredo 4WD with the X package (heated leather seats, sunroof, remote start, hi power radio, etc). We got the 4.7L V8 since it has higher torque to tow and MPG is not much worse the the V6. (We sold our 01 Gr Cherokee to our son, the Inline 6 cylinder engine had better torque than the new V6).
So we were familiar with JGCs already: the new body styles from 05 on are much better highway rides, quieter, with more room inside. EG, I could not fit in the 01 with a sunroof so we skipped that but the new 07 w/sunroof I have an inch to spare.
MPG was a concern with a V8 but in first 500 miles am getting 15mpg in town and 21 on highway, just like EPA sticker (ours will take E85 ethanol, common in midwest, we will probably try it next spring since it's not supposed to start/run as well in cold winter temps). The lifetime warranty and resonably priced extended warranty was attractive as well since we tend to drive our vehicles 10 years or more. However Jeeps do require frequent drivetrain fluid maintenance much of it like transfer case and differentials are under vehicle, hard to reach (the engine belts, plugs, filters, battery, cooling system however are very accessable and look relatively easy to service).

Strengths:
Nice ride, 4.7 has plenty of power and OK MPG.
Easy to drive/manuever with smaller turning radius and good visibility including parking.
LIFETIME POWERTRAIN WARRANTY.
Excellent value as deals on 07s with good dealer cash or rebates (appears to be spilling over to 08s since there are a lot of SUVs on the lot due to $3/gal gas).

Weaknesses:
MPG, ok, but could be better.
Frequent 15k mi differential, 30k mi transfer case and 30k mi plug changes (100k mi coolant however)pushes high costs of ownership like other truck SUVs (CUVs better) and drops resale, only a factor if you plan to trade in < 5 years.

2006 4.7 small 8

Summary:
I like the looks and ride of this SUV. BUT, THE GAS MILEAGE IS JUST AWFUL. I MUST HAVE A LEMON, BUT BROUGHT IT BACK AND HAD IT TESTED SEVERAL TIMES AND DEALER WOULD NOT DO ANYTHING FOR ME. I GET LIKE 12-13 IN CITY AND ABOUT 19 ON HIGHWAY. SOMETHING MUST BE WRONG!

Review 5 of 629

Price Paid:  $30000.00 from Mack Grubbs Jeep-Col

Year / Model Reviewed:
2006 5.7 4WD Limited

Summary:
No doubt this is the best vehicle I have ever owned (age57). I test drove Dodge, Chevy, GMC, Ford, Mercedes, and Land Rover SUV's before my purchase of the 5.7 Grand Cherokee. I use it for cross country travel and getting around all year in the Colorado Rockies. I have been in deep snow, blizzards, off road rock trails, through streams, 11000 ft + passes in all kinds of weather and the Grand Cherokee performed flawlessly in all conditions.

On highway driving at 75 mph I average about 20-21. At 65 mph I average about 23 because only half the motor is used. Around town I average about 16. At high altitude on mountain roads, I use the lowest grade fuel and average about 17.

The milege is exceptionally good for a vehicle with so much capacity to perform and in fact the real world mileage exceeds most of the touted imports. It is possible to get very poor mileage with a 5.7 Hemi if one drives with foot to the floor however, that is a driver defect.

I have read critical remarks about the placement of the ignition key-that it can be damaged by being hit with the drivers knee-that would be some trick. I am 6'1'' and weight 220. It isn't close to being in my way. I have read critical remarks about the placement of the emergency break handle-well it very easy to use and it has never been in my way.

The Grand Cherokee is not in the same catagory as most vehicles described as SUV's and the lack of clarification confuses the public. It is not a soccer mom car. It is not an import want to be. It is built for four adults who want to go anywhere they want on or off road. It is a special purpose vehicle with extraordinary capacity on and off the road.

Current political correctness calls for an anti-suv view point and has promoted poorly informed reviewers to dismiss the Grand Cherokee 5.7 4WD without really understanding what the vehicle is designed for and what it can do.

The 2006 5.7 Jeep Grand Cherokee is a fantastic vehicle-a classic.

Strengths:
Safety, performance, pulling power, towing capacity, off-road ability, technology, comfort, handling and gas mileage.

Weaknesses:
Would have chosen different tires
