Review 1 of 83

Price Paid:  $23900.00 from Land Rover of Seattl

Year / Model Reviewed:
2005 Land Rover Freelander

Strengths:
Nice looking, feels solid on the road, great interior, drives better than any other SUV at anything like its price.

Weaknesses:
Needs more horsepower, and a higher towing capacity would be nice. Otherwise, I am loving it.
I must say, it seems there are two Freelander assembly lines - people either love their cars or hate them. But it must be ssaid that many of the complaints are unfair. Complain about the driving position or the cup holder? Did you drive the car at all before you bought it? Complain about the ride on the road? Have you ever driven an SUV before? Nothing in this class, including ALL of the japanese models comes anywhere close to this thing in ride. What are you people talking about?!

Summary:
I have almost a year in this thing, and there has yet to be a mechanical fault. Its great to drive, although slightly underpowered. The interior is great. Compared to the likes of a Ford Explorer, it is a Jaguar! Brilliant to drive on the road, competent for its size off road.
I use it to tow a camper, so it is a shame the towing capacity isn't higher, but it does a great job with the one I have.

Similar Products Used:
Ford Explorer - not remotely close to the Land Rover

Price Paid:  $25000.00 from All Star Isuzu, LTD

Year / Model Reviewed:
2004 Land-Rover Freelander

Strengths:
Good storage for off road. Leg room in front is good. Rubber matting is good on floor.

Summary:
This has got to be one of the worst performances I have ever experienced in a small SUV. Parts are breaking, electrical problems, leaks and comfort is lacking all around the design of this vehicle. Acceleration, none. Tip probability, definite. If this vehicle was meant for off road usage only I could understand the design. Do not purcharse for every day usage. More of a frustration overall.

Review 3 of 83

Price Paid:  $27000.00 from Paul Miller

Year / Model Reviewed:
2004 Freelander

Strengths:
Mitzubishi SUV loaner which drives very smooth compared to the Freelander.

Weaknesses:
Ride and design.

Summary:
Buying this car was the biggest mistake I ever made. The ride is choppy, jerky, and extremely loud. It has absolutely no acceleration, so don't try passing another vehicle unless you have plenty of space between you and the car behind you. It has move design flaws than anything I've ever seen; the gas cap is unlocked with the inition key, which is a real annoyance when you fill up 3x a week, and can't close your window while waiting for your tank to be filled in rain, snow, cold, & heat; the cup holder is located in front of the clock,so you have to move your cup to see the time; the mileage and tripometer is in the same location, so you have to switch between them to see what they are; the hood release is on the right side (passenger side) because that's where the driver's side is in England; the seat adjustments are manual, the seats are very high and can not be lowered, everyone always complains about hitting their head; the seat adjustment to move the seats forward or back are manual. The dealer knew one of my concerns was the long distance driving I do, approximately 700 miles per week. They were very quick to talk me into an extended warranty, however forgot to mention the suggested service is every 12,000 miles at just under $400, hoping there's nothing else to fix. The only compliment I do receive on the car is the color, which of course has been discontinued. Not surprising. I have also had to have two under warranty service repairs which took several days to get my car back. I would discourage anyone from buying this car.

Review 4 of 83

Price Paid:  $42000.00 from Alto, Sydney

Year / Model Reviewed:
2004 Land Rover Freelander

Weaknesses:
Dealer support in Australia

Summary:
Fairly pleased with the Freelander itself but not impressed with the dealer. The biggest bunch of arrogant wasters I have had the misfortune of dealing with. Had a problem with the fuel pressure sensor on the car which took 5 separate visits to the dealership to rectify. Loan car? Yes at $45AU per day... thats not a loan car thats a hire car! I am now looking to sell the car for reasons not related to the dealer of the vehicle itself and they offered me $16000AU to buy the car back, even though they have an older 2003 model currently on their forecourt for $30k, damned cheek. Thats Alto Artarmon in Sydney.

Review 5 of 83

Price Paid:  $37000.00 from Land Rover American

Year / Model Reviewed:
2004 Freelander HSE

Strengths:
Solid road vehicle including freeway driving. Very capable offroad considering AWD only. Very comfy to drive and to be passenger. Very open and roomy inside. Stereo is great, climate control works great.

Weaknesses:
cargo space is limited. Roof rack is non existant.

Summary:
This vehicle has been nothing short of astonishing. Owning two Discoveries this was a vehicle for the wife. I didnt expect much of it. However it is extremely comfortable to drive in. the interior is very well designed and ergonomically pleasing from either seat. There is adequate room for two adults to sit comfortably in the rear. Nothing has broken or failed to function inside at least. There was an issue with the CV joints up front but Land Rover replaced the entire axle on both sides at no cost immediately. No other problems since. We have taken off-road with no issues and overall been extremely pleased with this vehicle and its performance on and off road. There are some pics of it offroad at goldrushexpeditions.com
