from Third-tier dealer Year / Model Reviewed: 1999 Oldsmobile Bravada Summary: So far I really like the Bravada. I bought it with a little over 81,000 miles for $6300! Naturally, it had the famous transfer case shudder, so I had both the filter and Auto Trak fluid replaced. Seems the transfer cases were sealed shut with a silicon caulking that breaks off over time and gums up the filter. Now works entirely fine. Also replaced the alternator, right front wheel bearing, lower ball joints and serpentine belt...all covered by the warranty I purchased!
I've read lotsa bad news on the Bravada, along with all other GM cars from the recent past....that's why you wait a few years and get them for $6300! In return for the low payments, you'll have to put up with repairs.
My Bravada was $33,000 new...the $27,000 I saved will pay for a lot of repairs!!!! Strengths: Great acceleration, ride, handling and looks. Weaknesses: Overly-complex electrical and mechanical systems set you up for the fall later. But isn't that all American-made vehicles these days?
The key is to either buy a Bravada with high miles so you get it cheap and all the big repairs have already been made, or buy an expensive one and put less than 30-40,000 miles on it and sell it before something big DOES happen. Similar Products Used: Ford Explorer (real junk)
