Model Reviewed: Rav4 4cyl.

Strength:

Good power for 4cyl. Good gas mileage. Handles like a car. Doesn't feel like a small SUV. Cost. Comfortable/quiet ride.

Weakness:

Antenna seems too short to pick-up some radio frequencies. Concerns about base spare cover being easily stolen.

I did a lot of research and own a 2000 Toyota solara (230k miles) and believe in toyota quality. I'm new to the SUV world and have thorougly enjoyed our Rav4. Base, but lots of standard features, plus have roof rack, alloy wheels (17"). I've driven it over 600 miles on freeway and ride was quiet, comfortable, but me and wife are both short (5'3"- 5'7"). The 4 cyl. was plenty for our needs and getting great gas mileage (22-28). I got 30 mpg during some of our long trip. When using the cruise control, avoid using it (like the manual states) on hilly terrain. Constant down-shifting occurs. Very few blind spots and easy to drive. Car-like. I recall reading an article stating buy for your needs, not what you "plan on" (i.e. v8, big SUV, but no boat, few kids). This suv totally fit our needs and when we have kids, still will.

I don find anything, frankly.

One must have this car as I have seen the level and driving in the very uneven levels of Oman mountains and one get a automatic addition to yourself while driving.A great car with a great company.I must salute the credibility and devotion of R&D which is a routine at Toyota. My hats off to the devotion dedication and determination of Toyota.Let only and only Toyota be seen on the road,I wish.

Strength:

Sleek, good looking, fuel efficiency is 260 miles in city for every tank of gas which is 14 Gallons +/-, which is average, on highway I've gotten a max. of 330 miles for a tank.

Weakness:

Not enough luggage space, stiff ride, low leg room, noisy interiors and zero snow stability, dealer wants me to spend an average of $100/ month (well thats what it adds to when you sum up all recommended do's) for maintenance or threatened that warranrty MAY be voided.

Reliable and economical, powerful enough to get you going to places far and near.

I have loved my car until the last month. i only have 40,000 miles on it. I started have a little jerk when it changes gears, since i have have 6 yrs the warrenty has expired and toyola will not do anything to help.i have taken to two different mechinacs and a toyola dealership and one says it is the computer, had the computer replaced and it did not help now they say it needs a new transmisson. I think only having 40,000 miles that toyola should help a least a little.

Strength:

Good design, great pick up, lots of storage, easy controls, handles in the back that you can pull to lower back seats without having to open the side door, storage spaces

Weakness:

rear window visibility could be better. When cars get too close I can no longer see them. Might be a problem in the dark. But maybe all SUVs are like it - I never had a car that was high off the ground.

This is a great little SUV. We got the base model 4 cyl. and it has great pick up. I didn't feel any need for a V6. I tried other makes SUV but they felt more like boats then cars. This one drives like a small nimble car. The is a 10 chapter video on RAV4 at HandBookLive.com, and they go over all the details of the car - how to access tools, how to operate cruise control, radio, how to adjust the sterring wheel, etc. It is a great way to preview the features of this car and get a "feel" for it.
We only had this car for a couple of weeks, but we absolutely love it. It is very well designed - everythigh is right where you want it. It is just so much fun to drive.
