Expert Reviews: 2007 Toyota Tacoma

"Although the Tacoma has put on nearly 700 pounds in weight and gotten wider in the hips by nearly five inches, it isn’t any less agile than its predecessor."

Review 2 of 379

Price Paid:  $0.00 from Mic Mac Toyota

Year / Model Reviewed:
2008 Access cab

Strengths:
Bodyshell design good with good crash test rating

Weaknesses:
Poor equipment levels, lack of design insight into use of the vehicle as a field office.

Summary:
As a long time driver of European and Japanese cars in Europe, when I moved to North America I expected that the quality and standard of fittings and features of Toyota's would be broably similar to European standards. So far I have been VERY disappointed in my Tacoma. Standard features are very basic to the point that I thought I had been transported back 20 plus years. No intermittent windshield wipe facility ....unbelievable, no ability for the HVAC system to deliver fresh air at face level and heated air to the footwell - dangerous on long journeys inducing driver fatigue. Very poor general storeage room - for anyone wanting to use the truck as their field office Toyota have squandered the chance to add useful stowage ..... yes there are some pockets here and there but nowhere to place a clipboard that can be easily accessed from the driving seat, nowhere to store a large flashlight close at hand, a glove box without a light!!! Truely incredible deficiencies in a supposedly modern vehicle.
The traction control system appears to have a mind of its own, some times it turns itself off after a spin out and goes off in a huff only to reset itself several days later or it has to be reset by the dealer. If you inadvertently leave the gas cap loose the engine check light illuminates and then won't go off until it gets a trip to the dealer to be reset. Similarly the electronically selected 4WD low range, once selected it may not come out of low range for hours until it decides it wants to play again.
Toyota in Europe - good quality product with very competitive equipment levels - Toyota in North America - forget it, buy American, you may also have quality problems but at least you are not also killing the American Industry as well.
Ride quality is average, manual gearshift positive, but VERY POOR 360 degree vision particularly past the B post.

2007 duble cab

Strengths:
has plenty of power.
fits six conferrably. (for a mid-size tuck)
4x4 works grate.

these tucks are expensive but you get for what you pay for.

Review 4 of 379

Price Paid:  $24800.00 from El Cajon Ford CA

Year / Model Reviewed:
2007 Tacoma Prerunner xtracab V6

Strengths:
It has pleanty of power and rides fairly smooth for a midsize. Looks great. Easy to change oil.

Weaknesses:
A nice looking truck but needs a few improvements. 1. aux. input for ipod.
2. aux. power point that will cont. to charge while motor isn't running. More head room. I'm only 6ft tall. 3. Lighted cargo area. 4. Locking tailgate/gas cap.
5. Sunroof option.
Wind can be heard entering the cab at freeway speed. Adjustable steering wheel squeeks. Gas mileage on my sticker when I bought it stated 19city/21hwy. I get 17city/19hwy., close but not much better than my F150 (16/18). Most of these things I was told by the salesman will be available when they do the next redesign of the Tacoma. 2010

Summary:
A midsize truck, with good looks, strong engine, reasonbly comfortable interior. A little tough for me to get into, bad knee. Handles great. Instrumentation is well laid out and easy to use. Lots of cup holders. Stereo is just average.

Review 5 of 379

Price Paid:  $35000.00 from 1000 ISLANDS TOYOTA

Year / Model Reviewed:
2007 TACOMA TRD OFF ROAD

Strengths:
power, decent gas mileage, roomy, looks, good ride.

Weaknesses:
If you have the chrome rear bumper keep an eye for rust pits around the licence plate. I only showed it to the dealer and didnt have to ask what they would do about it, they replaced it in 2 days.no questions asked. no other weakness

Summary:
Havent had the taco very long yet but it has made a good impression so far. We had an 03 Dakota that was in an accident and wrote off. Looked at 07 Dakotas but they are so ugly I wouldnt put one in my yard. The Taco with a 6 cyl has not quite as much power as our V8 Dak but not much less either-its not even broke in yet and is much better on fuel. It has a lot of leg room, more room in the back(according to my wife, I havent rode there yet) The access cab is a lot better with the doors opening suicide style(we dont need the 4 door) This is my first Toyota and I am very happy with it. Probly wont be my last.
