Strength:

good sound quality, good power for first four channels, good deal if you wated till the model was out of production. Good ergonomics.

Weakness:

5th channel is kind of weak, and lacks a bass boost. Runs a little hot.

This is a great amp. if you know what you want out of it.... Sound Quality.... that does not mean to be heard a block down.... but to hear your own music. If you want to be heard outside the car get a two channel or somethin more powerfull that can handle a lotta sub. I've had the amp for a while now, the turning off thing that people complain about i'm glad to have cause i have seen more than 1 amp pushed more than it is supposed 2 be and just burn up. What i really like bout the amp is the power to the the first four channels. If you're running it as a 5 channel don't expect too much in terms of subs... a 10" that doesn't require too many watts would be plenty. I actually recomend running a crossover w/ a bass boost for the subwoofer input. Eases some of the overheating probs. I do agree with other reviews that it tends to run a little warm most of the time, and even with just a 10, it can overheat and turn off on you. Considering that it's a 5 channel and the amps it uses i'm not too surprised. I actually tried running it as a three channel seemed 2 not run as hot. Let me explain why i give it only 4 stars tho.... i just expect more out of an alpine, i'd like to have seen it put out a little more watts on 5th channel, and run a little cooler, and i only four starts on value because it would cost the same to get a four channel and a 1 or 2 channel amp, although wiring would cost more and you'd loose on the form factor of a 5 channel amp.

Haven't used any other 5 channels, altho used plenty of other alpine amps, the v12's usually have very goood sound quality, i've seen a mtx 5 channel that seemed to handle subs a lot better, but sound quality on high/full pass wasn't as good, also lacked the features the alpine has.

Strength:

Clean sound, low noise (if you can install) and good looks.

Weakness:

size is a bit big for the size limited vehicles.

This amp is one of the cleasnest sounding amps I have ever owned. It's not for the competetive bass head, but a great amp for a complete sounding system. It runs two 8", two 10" or one 12" without breaking a sweat.

Strength:

Clean, powerful sound. Flexible configuration and crossover. 5 channel design permits fading front & rear plus a sub.

Weakness:

Gets very hot under high volume for prolonged periods.

This amp may not be show winner but let me tell you, this amp will drive (2) pairs of Polk 6.5" separates & (1) JL Audio 10" Sub louder than most can take for prolonged periods. If you want a system that shakes the windows of the house across the street, this amp is not for you. If you want a great sounding, clean and powerful amp that fits under your seat and doesn't comprimise on performance, then this amp IS for you. Nowadays you can find them for about $275 new -- trust me, it's a bargain.

Strength:

CLEAR GOOD FOR 2 10S OR 1 12

Weakness:

SHORTAGES OUT/ GETS VERY VERY HOT

GOOD AMP WILL SOUND GOOD IF YOU GOT 10S OR 1 12.... WILL PUSH IT TO THE LIMIT.. IT DOES GIVE OUT AFTER BEING UP AT LOUD A LOUD VOLUME FOR A LONG PERIOD OF TIME, BUT YET VERY VERY CLEAR! I WOULDN''T SUGGEST THIS AMP TO THOSE THAT REALLY REALLY WANT A SERIOUS SYSTEM, BUT I DO SUGGEST THIS AMP TO THOSE THAT WANT TO HIT AND BE NOTICED....

Strength:

clean design and sound, can be reasonably priced (as low as $330)

Weakness:

"clips" at high volumes, can be as expensive as $450 (definitely not worth that much), not enough power to run anything decent in the sub department

Definitely not what I expected. I was hoping its 5 channel design would simplify my sysmtem but quite frankly, it's been nothing but a headache for me. When it's running well, it's running well . . . but at high volumes . . . it tends to lose it for brief moments. Don't get me wrong, if you don't like head pounding bass and a ridiculous amount of sound pouring out of your car, this MAY be the amp for you. If you're not satisfied until every bolt on your car is screaming and holding on for dear life . . . than go with a DEI or PPI or A/D/S or whatever else you can find with three letters for a name . . .
bottom line, it ain't bad for the conservative listener . . . but it's not gonna win you any awards
