Price Paid:  $160.00 from indo audio (eBay)

Year / Model Reviewed:
2003 Brutus BX 500D

Strengths:
stable power reproduction DOUBLES from 2 ohms to 1 ohm. Other amps (fosgate, alpine, kenwood and even better ones) cant even work under 1ohm loads without blowing from heat. This amp doesnt get hot, beyond normal operation even. Its variable subsonic filter and crossover combo is a plus. The bass boost control is rediculous, putting more power centered at 45 hz than I'll ever need. My box is tuned to 45 hz, by the way. Using 2 coustic dual 4 carbon fiber subs.

Weaknesses:
small dials have to be turned with screwdriver.

Summary:
This well built affordable amp is only 32 cents a watt! I have this amp connected to 2 subs in 2ohm loads. The internal bridging "sees" a 1 ohm load, giving each sub 250 watts. The amp has 2 speaker capability. (2 outputs) 250 watts is RMS power rating for my subs in a vented box. The variable crossover set to 100hz. the variable subsonic is a nice bonus, I have it set to 25hz at 24db per octave. If using this amp for a 1ohm, 500 watt output I recommend a 4awg wire kit. The small 10x10 footprint fits under the seat, and has not gotten hot yet. I wish I had room to mount it for viewing because the awesome blue "brutus" logo really lights up the ride. The bass dial also matches this blued color. I think the silver finish not only looks very industrial and tough, it also reflects outside heat sources, and this amp performs perfectly in my 00 Ranger. I'm very pleased so far, using this daily for a month and no problems. The zero noise cables send a clean signal that this amp reproduces far too well for its price. I have seen it for $315, but you can buy one for $160-170 plus ship'n.

Similar Products Used:
as far as mono class d goes, only Blaupunkt, Kenwood, PPI, Coustic and Memphis. I wish I would have bought hifonics long ago...
