Review 4 of 4 Year / Model Reviewed: 1999? Strengths: High power- lots of features- sound adjustability- dual pre amp outs- large display Weaknesses: not very intuitive to use- non defeatable "beep" when buttons are pushed Summary: I got this stereo to replace the stock unit in my Civic. 25x4 rms (or so) w/40 watts max. Is a tape player w/the flap face and CD changer control. Very clean power, and the pre amp outs made it easy to attach the sub I brought over from my last car. It plays very loud- even in my noisy civic. The mosfet amp can play really loud with minimal (if any) audible distortion. No need for an external amp for most people. Lots of fun features- like naming CD's in my cd changer- tape play time is displayed- and 3 band adjustability. A cool feature is that you can select the frequency for low/mid/highs, and even the way the freq. curve slopes. My complaints are that it's not intuitive to use it -you need to read the instructions in order to learn how to use some of the more complicated features- and even the instructions aren't crystal clear. (This is a problem w/Pioneer products across the board, though.) The other is that whenever you hit a button (to incr. vol., change a station, ff a song) the thing beeps. It's very annoying, because you can always hear it above the music. Other than that, it's great. And it's only about $220 in most stores. Extrememly good value for the money- it'll make most people very happy. Similar Products Used: Stock Honda stereo/Alpine head unit (circa 1995 from last car)/Friends Kenwood CD player circa 1996
