Review 1 of 7

Price Paid:  $111.00 from friend moving to CA

Year / Model Reviewed:
~94 Alpine 7982 3-Disc In-Dash Changer

Summary:
Awesome! Especially if you have multiple (preloaded) magazines! I do... Well made and laid out... relatively durable... Mine is almost (over?) 10 years old!!!

Strengths:
Convenient, Within reach, well (enough) laid out (always room for improvement), Still working after 10 years of use!!!

Weaknesses:
Info about magazine interchangeablitity with newer units non-existent (7987, 7985, 7887, etc)... Slow... nowadays 6-disc in-dash without mag is COOL!!! Backlight for display burned out... $40 to replace $1 LED...

Similar Products Used:
I was wondering, If 7987, 7985, 7887, etc., will interchange their 3-disc Magazines with the 7982...??? And Vice-versa? I'm looking for the SAME 7982, or similar 7985, 7887, 7987, etc... IF I ca

Review 2 of 7

Price Paid:  $400.00 from Circuit City

Year / Model Reviewed:
 1996 / 7982

Summary:
This is the best car stereo I have ever owned. The dual illumination is fabulous, it has all the features I need and plays great. All my friends love it too.

Strengths:
Dual illumination, 3 CD in dash beats having to go to the trunk to change them out.

Weaknesses:
Needs a 4 channel amp to power it.

Review 3 of 7

Price Paid:  $350.00

Year / Model Reviewed:
 1998 3DA-7987

Summary:
Product jammed quite frequently, disc now cannot read cds. I''m having many problems with this cd head unit, it worked for apporoximately 3 days before it went haywire. The CD did sound incredibly better than my sony cd player.

Strengths:
Great Great Sound until is broke

Weaknesses:
You have to buy a 4 channel amp $$$ for the 4 speakers. Perhaps unit is rare because the 3 disc isn''t too effective. Pretty expensive unit

Review 4 of 7

Price Paid:  $800.00

Summary:
i love the alpine. unfortunately i must sell it to make ends meet. but i plan on purchasing another alpine product in the near future.

Strengths:
oh man, this is one nicely built product. the 3 disc in dash is superior to trunk/glove compartment mounted changers. it's totally awesome.

Weaknesses:
maybe a built in equalizer would be nice, considering the cost of the head unit.

Similar Products Used:
jvc el kameleon. the jvc is fancier, but like 3 other head units i've had, this one never had a single problem.

Review 5 of 7

Price Paid:  $350.00

Year / Model Reviewed:
 97

Summary:
I would recommend the 7987 for convenience and excellent sound quality. It would be a great foundation for future system upgrades. 4 Volt Pre Outs help with less gain on your amps to achieve cleaner signals. You must have separate amplification with this unit.

Strengths:
CONVENIENCE. Ability to change 3 cds. Also, controlled 6 cd changer. 4 Volt Pre Out for cleaner sound and less gain. Stealth appearance after faceplate was removed. Excellent sound quality!!

Weaknesses:
A cd would occasionally get jammed in one the slots and get stuck in the player. Placing an empty 3 cd cartridge cured the problem. I had to worry a couple of times. No dual illumination.

Similar Products Used:
Alpine 7982. Also, an excellent unit. Newer unit was more crisp with highs. I had to use more gain on my componenets to achieve loud sound.
