Strength:

programmable text is fun,sound quality,rotary volume,looks nice

Weakness:

cdr's,3in cd's,so complicated i'm sure i'm missing half the features as i don't have the manual

The most frustrating expensive head unit i have ever owned...it may sound great and have all these super features but its flexability lets it down for me..you need to book an appointment to play cdr's,it won't play 3in cd's either..call me picky but all my other cheaper(pioneer, sony)units have no trouble in these areas..

Strength:

Sounds GREAT,has some very nice features.4V preout.Nice bright display.

Weakness:

UNRELIABLE,predictable(it WILL stop working once it warms up)Alpine's repair dept. can't fix it or most other Alpine products.Alpine's customer service isn't all that great either.Too bad.

Very expensive JUNK.If this unit was reliable it would be incredible, awesome even, but it doesn't work.If you have one of these don't drive it hard for long periods of time,it can't take it.

Over the last twenty years I have used 5 Alpine head units and 1 EQ. all high end stuff.I'm a fool!!! It has all broken.I've spent more in repairs than most people spend on a head unit.

Strength:

Sound quality is unbeatable. I guarantee it. Sub control is awesome, so is the kill switch for the subs (keep your highs up but kill your subs when you see the cop ahead) Dual illumination Search for stations by name Did I mention unbeatable sound quality?

Weakness:

No CD text No high x-over Other Alpines have nicer displays. Too many damn features, I get confused, damnit im a retard

Great head unit, definately the clearest I''ve ever heard (though some others have more features; but do you get it for the sound or the gadgets?). Running it with an Alpine F407 and an Alpine 1507, and I own.

Easy to use
Sound Quality
3 preouts

Weakness:

No Cd Text

When I was down at The Sound Shop i went in looking at a high end Sony es deck. But, then a guy Mike went and showed me the difference and what a difference it was. Screw Sony go alpine all way. The sony was too difficult to use with all the buttons. With alpine you almost never need to touch anything.

Strength:

The 3 pre outs with the low pass third, and the fact that the sound quality that comes out of this head unit makes it godly. The fact that there is no crappy onboard amp built onto this head unit. The alpine 7941 was the perfect choice for me i must say. you can actually see the display during the day. This is the perfect head unit for what i am running. I am running the alpine mrv-f407 for my 2 sets components, and I am running a jbl bp1200.1 for my 2 mtx 8000's. so as any audiophile would know that would be about the perfect head unit for what i am running. ps i hit 148.9. Hell yea!!

Weakness:

There is not much i dont like about it.

Strength:

No built in amp.(waste of Mosfets)
The base, bbe, treble, subwoofer settings are different for cd/tuner playback(a really great feature).

Weakness:

Weak remote sort of it woulb be nice if it worked through a window (does any of them?)
The bbe sounds more like distortion than anything else
It has a low pass crossover for for subwoofer out preamp why not a high pass for the other preamp outs?

price $350
A definate bargain.
I recomend it for anyone who realizes that deck power is terrible and this is the way to go.
This is not a head unit for the do it yourselfer that couldnt hook up an amp on his(or her)
Alpine is definatly in a class of its own in the headunit department i really think it is the way to go!

Strength:

Rotary Knob, 4Volt Preouts, Subwoofer Level Control, BBE Processor, Wireless Remote

Weakness:

I was originally looking at the CDA-7845 Which had the same features, but added power built in it, but it wasn't a popular model so It became obsolete.

I paid $450 for it, but it came with a free amplifier worth about $150. It does everything, and is certainly worth the money. I had a 2 year old alpine and changing it took about 15 minutes due to it having the same harness. A true piece of work. I'd recommend this head to anyone who's serious about car audio. And it has almost all of the features of the 2000 models which won't be released until spring.

Strength:

Massive sound - BBE and multiple 4 volt preouts make all the difference. The best tuner I have ever used - distant stations that sound weak on other units get pulled in loud and clear. Incredible sounding CD playback, and reads every CD out there (CD-R, scratched, you name it) without skipping on bumpy roads. AI-net CD Shuttle controller - an Alpine 12 cd shuttle is a good companion. Subwoofer level control. And a multitude of other features I am still figuring out.

Weakness:

None really, unless you count the lack of an on board amp. However, if you're buying a quality head unit like this one, you should get external amp(s) anyway as they sound better.

I ended up returning my CDA-7840 6 months after I bought it - it sounded good and has some nice features, but the display was just way to dim in daylight. I was going to go up to this years model, the CDA-7843 (which has a bright display - after several years Alpine finally listened and made the displays readable on their new product line) when the 7941 cought my eye.
It was over a $100 more than the 7843, and doesn't have an onboard amp (not that I need one), so I wondered what the difference was. As it turns out, after some friendly dickering with the salesperson (Jeff at SoundTrack in Arvada, CO) I ended up with the 7941 practically at cost, with free removal/installation to boot. I discovered exactly what the difference was the minute it was installed. I don't consider myself to be much of an audiophile, but even my ears heard the difference in sound quality. It's so much better than the 7840 (which wasn't bad sounding in the first place) it's not even funny. And with the new display, I can actually see what selection I am playing in bright sunlight. I HIGHLY recommend this unit. I am using it with 4 Infinity QXR 3 way speakers, an Infinity 12' subwoofer, an Alpine V-12 240 amp driving the sub and an Alpine RX-4 200 driving the speakers. Up front, I run it through the Alpine 180 11 band graphic EQ, and I top the whole thing off with an Alpine 12 CD shuttle. Maybe I won't win any boomer contests down at the local Denny's parking lot Saturday night, but for under $2k this setup kicks major butt. BTW, the price for the 7941 itself was $455 - although I got it for much less than that!

Strength:

Rotary control, ergonomic design, 4-volt preouts, subwoofer control, remote, looks and FEATURES, FEATURES, FEATURES.

Weakness:

The multitude of features requires a good manual read-thru.

I got the unit thru a friend that worked at an authorized dealer. This unit replaced last year's CDA-7940. The install went fairly easy. The headunit has NO built-in amp, so you need and outboard amplifier. I used an ESX Q1204 amplifier (excellent amp, BTW). I appreciate the numerous 4-volt preouts, it gave me more control over the system. AND the features, WOW. I actually sat down for a good 15 minutes reading thru the thing trying to figure out every button. The thing I love most about Alpine CD players is their ability to read CDs. I have some scratched CDs that would make most players go crazy-not Alpine. Also, they resist skipping more than the other players I've used. Overall, Alpine has never let me down yet, esp. with the CDA-7941.

Strength:

This unit has almost all the features that a good competition head unit would have. Some of the many features are: BBE, parimetric bass freq, 4 volt output, and 3 sets of RCA's(one being for the sub). The sound quality is awesome. Most of the controls are easy to use.

Weakness:

Without reading the users guide, it would be hard for a rookie to use all its features. Lack of highpass x-over.

I have't had any problems with this unit. I received a great deal at the Good Guys (I normally do not buy car audio equipment from them). It was the last one they had because of the next years models coming in and it was the floor display. I paid $199. total for it...that's including a 2 year warranty and tax. I could't pass up that offer.
