Price Paid:  $350.00 from EBAY

Year / Model Reviewed:
2000 Alpine CDA D857

Strengths:
Great power (45W X 4), crisp highs and mids, available sub output, 4V pre outs and AI NET capabilities. Looks great and sounds even better. I can't make this thing skip!!!

Weaknesses:
Large detachable face, no front audio input, display is so nice you can't keep your eyes on the road.

Summary:
Awesome receiver!!! the only choice if your car has the dreaded 1 1/2 Din configuration. Although no longer produced, one pops up on ebay from time to time... worth the wait. I was lucky to find a new old stock unit which was never installed and put it in my 96 Tahoe. This unit makes even the stock speakers rock! It looks great in the dash (now... what to do with the remote CD?) Easy installation and straight forward wiring. If you get an antenna adapter and the GM connector it is an idiotproof install. I removed the bottom plate of the stock radio (it has the stock mounting rails and locks built in) and attached the unit to it. It aligns the unit perfectly in the dash opening and allows for easy tooless removal should you want to upgrade later. The owner's manual is about the size of "war and Peace" but the controls are intuitive and easy to learn. There are tons of AI Net adapters from video to GPS Nav to CD changers and even I-Pod controllers if you just want to keep on adding to the head unit.

Price Paid:  $0.00

Year / Model Reviewed:
2002 Camaro SS

Strengths:
1.5din, one of the only 1.5's that is worth getting. Why people use those din adapters on 1.5 and 2 din dashes is beyond me.

Weaknesses:
Few other options avalable,

Summary:
Not much to say about this piece. It is far better than a stock head unit, has a sub out. If you are looking for a 1.5 din to keep a clean dash profile you really have few options, this would be the best avalable.

Pioneer=Garbage Cheap alternative though.
