Year / Model Reviewed: 2005 Alpine cda 9833
Strengths: Sound Quality. Ipod Ready. Sat Ready. EQ. Mp3. Display.
Weaknesses: Cd skips on bumps. And u must have knowledge on how to adjust crossovers.
Summary: Best deck ive ever owned. seriously the eq is bad ass. i only have one issue with this deck and many people have pointed it out. the cd skips but that can easily be fixed by just adding a ipod adapter. I also love the fact that u can tune your radio online to the exact specs of your speakers, subs, and car. I love this radio. I highly recommend it if your familiar with crossovers and alpine eq's.

Strengths: Great display, wide choice of colors, tilting face.
Weaknesses: WAY too many miniscule fine-tunings but virtually ZERO basic ones. No loudness (Pioneer has 3 levels) no basic bass/treble/midrange controls, poor clarity, sounds like a warped disc at times.
Summary: This is quite possibly the most disappointing purchase of my life. Alpine was supposed to be "the best" so I built an entirely new system for my corvette around it. Highest power Punch amps, Power series speakers, component sets up front. I have never messed around with a device longer than this head unit, simply trying to get a decent sound. Way too many x-over controls, eq is a joke and adjusts virtually nothing, no loudness or basic bass & treble control. I took everything but the head unit out, and hooked it up in my winter beater to an $80 Pioneer HU. Guess what? The best sounding system I've ever heard! Re-wired entire vette, made sure everything was correct, everything was. Hooked it all back up...same crap sound. Horrible mid-high separation, bass is overblown...I have to readjust the amp gains for each cd I put in. This is the legendary Alpine sound???Terrible. I have spent countless hours trying to rectify the sound...to no avail. It has now been torn out and I am awaiting the arrival of my new Pioneer Premier deck. What a waste of potential and money.

Weaknesses: Alpine is thier own weakness. I have repeatedly called alpine trying to talk to a manager, to see if they will stand behind thier product, I get put on hold, they take my number, and do not return my calls. $95 to repair a unit that if lucky may work for 6 months.
Summary: this H.U. is junk. xmas '04 recieved unit as gift. June '05 first unit defective, cd player skipped, cd player would stick, same time every cd. alpine sent refurb. Jan '06 another six months later. refurb. unit will not take a cd. error. send back to alpine again.
I will never purchase another Alpine product again

Strengths: looks, reliable, sound, xover, time correction, peq, programable presets, tilt, remote, knob, 3 gold 4 volt preouts, night display, 512 colors, easy to use, no b.s. instructions
Weaknesses: display is sometimes hard to see during the day
Summary: this deck kicks a$$. tones of features. looks killer at night. what deck has 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th order xovers, 6 channel time correction, and a 5 band peq for $450 and sounds and looks this good....none!!!
i demoed a similar deck but it was sill $550, it was Eclipses #2 deck, i think the 5444 or somethin like that
Eclipse decks are nice but the highs sounded horrible.. cymbals sounded cheap and not airy at all.. also the deck is no where near as flexible when it comes to tweaking the sound.. i must say, the E sounds killer when using the DSP feature tho, too bad the 9833 doesnt have DSP
some of these other reviews are fools, dont even know what a peq is or dont even know how to use it
like ive said many times... still havent found a deck id rather have, any price

Strengths: 4v preout, mp3, wma, 2-3 way xover with adjustable slope, parametric eq, time correction,
Weaknesses: none, one more time alpine can probe his leadership in car audio industry
Summary: the guy down here is really crazy, how he can tell that sony (car audio junk) is better than alpine??, audiophile´s friends he is blasphemy our sound god!!!!. man this head unit has incredible sound if you have a good amp with a good component speaker. parametric eq is the best, fine tuning for all frequency, time correction really help to minimize distortion, you can really fell the difference, 4V, and a lot of specs that can make a big big difference in sound quality.
that guy is really crazy when sony has win an audiophile contest???? NEVER MY MANNNN. in all of the car audio contest i went ,always i saw alpine or eclipse head units in the most of the cars
