I got the deck after reading the reviews. I felt by what Iread it was a pretty nice deck. After I installed it, hooked it up to my 1,000watt amp and played my CD's that "bang" I felt this is worth way more than I paid for it. I love the radio station titling and the CD titling. The BBE pumps out some serious sound additive. I only had it up to 15 and that was crankin. This deck doesn't have all the fancy graphics but I will take the way it sounds over graphics any day !!!!!!!

i do not own this product but i thought i would write a review cause i can and cause i am going to get one. the one that i saw does play MP3's, this same unint in europe plays MP3's as well

WONDERFUL power output ABSOLUTLY beautiful color!(chrome and blue) EASY to install and operate EVERYTHING!!!!!

the ONLY weakness i can think of is that the fact that im dumb and cant find out to set it a LLIIITTTLEEE bit dimmer, and it iss a LITTTLE bit pricey, can be found for 260$ at www.savinglots.com... but even if you pay 350$ it is well worth it trust me!

well there wasnt a post for the CDA-7893 but this thing is soo damm good i should put it on all. the thing gets extremely loud, i cant even turn it up past 22 wit the bass set on 2 because my cruddy stock speakers will distort sum, but not enough to prevent me from blasting out the cars next to me at stoplights. the 4volt preamp subwoofer output is great too! im about to hook up two new 15" 2003 model kicker compVRs to it via a JBL BP1200.1 amp in parrellel and i cant WAIT so see how hard this is gunna slam! when i have the media expander on it sounds like i have a few 10s in the back with jus these stock 6x9s! and also a good feature you can transfer the bass to play at mostly the rear or all around if you dont have subs! i would tell ANYBODY to buy this receiver, its even got a kool angle adjuster so if you like to ride wit yer elbow behind yer back like a thug(i do sumtimes) or is you jus want to lay back in case of drive-bys then you have perfect vision of this ALL the time!

This is a great product. I am a self-proclaimed audiophile with a musician's ear...I am one. I have an uncanny ability to separate natural sound from distortion in the most cluttered audio environments. In my quest to find the receiver with the best eqalization controls, I believe I have happened upon an absolute marvel! The so-called Bass Engine is a selectable crossover point (at 60 Hz, 80 Hz, 100 Hz or 200 Hz), pre-amp sub out controls in the head, and the remarkable BBE signal processor. The BBE processor can dramatically improve the overall sound quality of your stereo. It reduces the distortion in a patented circuit. I have no idea how it works technically, but the results are incredible! Every nuance can be heard, given the proper speaker setup, and heard loud and clear. It also has a loudness control which is not needed with the BBE.
The CD player "will not skip". I have had mine in two vehicles. I had a wreck Dec. 2000, and the CD player NEVER SKIPPED!!! I was not completely happy with my new truck until I had it installed, now I am a happy camper. My setup will eventually consist of 'this' Alpine receiver, a Kenwood 64x4 amp pushing two Infinity Reference w/Plus One woofer cone 6 1/2 and two Reference 4x6, a Kicker amp pushing two Kicker or Infinity eights. I have a '95 S-10, by the way.
The built-in 45x4 peak (22w x 4 RMS) amplifier, is powerful enough to push four speakers cleanly and efficiently. And it looks good too, very elegant Alpine styling.
This is a very good buy. I would reccomend this to anyone.

Pioneer, Sony X-plod, Blaupunkt, JVC El Kameleon---This receiver is more solid than many similarly priced and some more exepensive receivers that I have heard and played with. The only other receiver that has compared to the Bass Engine's awesome equalization control is the Pioneer with it's parametric equalizer aptly named the Easy-EQ, which is another great feature on the market today. The only thing that sets the Alpine apart from these is the BBE (Barcus Berry Electronics) processor.

The BBE is a must on a headunit. The tuner is one the best I've found for that particular price range.

It doesn't like cdr. If I record them at 1x it might play them. I mean, when is Alpine going to make a headunit for that price range read all cdr. The display could be brighter.

I simply love my Alpine. It may not be fancy or nething, but it sure beats everyone in sound quality. I would put it up against ne brand for sound quality. I think that is most important when buying a head unit.

I got this for christmas and it's cool. I don't know much about car stereos, I just did a search to see how much it was worth and stuff and I thought I'd write a review. Someone said if I get an amp that'd get rid of the distortion, then get speakers later, I think that's what I'm gonna do, if anyone knows anything about amps send me an email! Overall it's a great system.

small buttons and DO YOU REALIZE how easy it is to steal an alpine?????

I paid about 300 for this unit and never wished I got something else. I think the disc title is worthless because I don't have another clock in my car, but this head has served me well. I used to run pizzas and managed to crap up my car greatly, and over all the speed bumps I thumped and rocky trailer parks and jackrabbit starts; This head will not skip my CDs. I think this head is great. I just wish the remote worked better. It's hard to use it through windows when I'm outside my car. It works well enough when I'm in my trunk adjusting amps. I say buy this or a new alpine, I don't expect I'll ever trade this in while it still is in one piece. For the love of God, take your face off. Alpines come out of your dash in about .2 seconds, so you can go pay for gas and it could be gone by the time you get back.

Incredible sound, Barcus Berry Electronics (BBE) and a knob for volume (much easier than pressing buttons).

The display is faint and not easy to read in the daytime, the buttons could be bigger.

I paid $230 on a closeout sale from a stereo store which had a web page, the store said that $230 was their invoice price. You should easily find this unit for around $275 on the internet. Alpine does not allow authorized dealers to sell over the phone or the internet. Thus, if you buy from over the internet, chances are it is not from an "authorized" dealer meaning you have no factory warranty. So, if you are worried, make sure the store you buy it from carries their own warranty.

Anyway, concerning the head unit itself, it pulls in FM stations extremely well, and, of course, the CD comes through real clear. The buttons are logically placed and the rotary knob for volume is a great asset. I don't have any amps, CD shuttles, or anything like that hooked up to my unit, just four after market speakers.

The buttons are a little small, but the rotary control (knob) for volume is a good size. It is easy to control the basic controls (volume, skipping songs, fast forwarding / rewinding songs, going to a preset radio station, switching between CD and radio) quickly and without looking at the unit (keeping your eyes on the road).

The 20 disk titling feature is one of those features that is great if you have CD changer(s) hooked to this unit but not so useful if you don't (I prefer to have the clock or the track / elapsed time displayed). If you do have a changer hooked up, you can scan the list of titles you have entered and the unit will automatically search for the disc and play it. Another feature of this head unit is the "scanning programs", where it will play the first ten seconds of each track, useful if you are not too familiar with a particular CD. On the radio side of things, the Direct Access Preset (D.A.P.) Band is great if you listen to one or two AM radio stations in addition to the FM stations. With this, you can store AM and FM stations in the six presets, without having to press another button to switch between AM and FM. That is, you can have presets 1, 2, 4, & 5 (the left four) presets as FM stations and the right two (3 and 6) as AM, or however you want to arrange them.

In conclusion, the BBE is the reason why you should buy this model over the Alpine CDA 7838, the sound is just incredibly clear. The BBE and knob, as well as styling and overall quality of Alpine is why you should buy this model over other brands. Also, this unit comes with a remote control which is one of those neat features if you have a van or SUV (where people sitting in the back may want to control the head unit), in a small car it is just a curiosity.

Nota Bene: The CDA 7839 may be a part of a discontinued line. The 2000 models have a new look though the guts appear to be the same (based off of the features list). It appears as though the CDA 7863 is the closest to the CDA 7839, though the price is a little higher and it is a little more powerful (65w x 4). The look is different, of course, though it still has the knob for volume. You can learn more about this (and other Alpine products) at their web site, www.alpine1.com. If the CDA 7839 is a discontinued item it may show up at more discounted prices. Maybe.

Sounds great - BBE feature is very nice. Design is pretty simple - built more for function (which is what I wanted). Skipping is rare - only occasionally and on sharp bumps.

Detachable face is a pain in the ass but is serves the purpose. Only 2 RCAs out. And, as with almost all units, I can't see the display in bright sunlight.

I paid $279. I don't know if that is a good deal or not, but I would recommend this unit to anyone. I am running it with Infinity speakers and an Eclipse amp and it sounds better than the Eclipse I had hooked up previously.

This is my 2nd Alpine head unit (traded up to it), and I love the sound clarity and the functional appearance! Like my first Alpine, the thing just doesn't skip. Equally important is how the equipment holds up, and Alpine excels. This is true for my Alpine EQ and 6X9 speakers as well. You pay a little more for Alpine, but you most definitely get what you pay for.
