I recently purchased and installed this, along with some Pioneer speakers, in my 88 Jeep Cherokee. It previously had the stock head unit and speakers, all of which were blown and warped. What a difference! Of course just about any thing would make a difference like that, however.
I am very pleased with the unit, however while the installation was straight forward and rather easy, the bracket that came with it wasn't compatable with my vehicle. I had to modify the existing bracket to make it fit - it took a while to get it to fit correctly though. If the DIN space in your dash is solid, or you have easy access to the firewall (it comes with three mounting options, two of whish are complicated and requrie dirlling into the vehicle) the bracket will work fine. But if the old radio was seemingly "floating" it won't. The stock unit's bracket was screwed in from the front and hidden by the dash trim while the back was supported by hanging it from a clip.
Once you do get it installed it works great! The lights on the faceplate aren't annoying at all and don't produce a bright green glow like most other radios that are backlit. The sound is very clear and the CDs load fast when the unit is turned on. A large factor in me choosing this unit is that it came with a volume dial instead of buttons so that it was easier to change while driving, to my delight, I discovered that if you tap the dial (also the power button when held) the system is muted (you can adjust how much it is muted through the settings). To aid driving even more, it comes with a remote.
Radio reception was improved significantly as well, but it will most likely increase more when the power antenna is replaced. Operation of the unit overall is easy as long as you read the manual, otherwise you'll spend hours trying to figure it out. What I was most impressed with though was the equalizer. It came with multiple presets that worked great and even to user set ones. Unlike some equalizers that merely change the tone a little, with this one you could change the music greatly. Not only did the bass and treble settings affect bass and treble, when adjusted they also manipulate the mid tones as well, allowing for a more "powerful" soung instead of just more bass (you could still do that too). This is great for older rock bands such as AC/DC, as it adds more depth to the music.
Overall I love this new stereo and it's an exellent deal for under $100. I was just looking for a cheap unit for my Jeep because I just mess around in it for fun - I also have an Audi (it's my baby), but I got alot more than I was expecting. Similar Products Used:
