Review 2 of 16

Price Paid:  $545.00 from Tms electronics

Year / Model Reviewed:
2001 Clarion drx9675z

Strengths:
Great features very cool display. 24 bit dac's. Way ahead of the competion.

Weaknesses:
Fussy!! Horrible playback if your cd has as much as a finger print on it. Skips like a $80 k mart cd player and gets worse with time. My sound q car witch on a good day maybe generate 135 db. In a new car properly mounted SKIPS,SKIPS,SKIPS. This makes me INSANE! I have had $ 240 Jvc's in my db car that produced 150 db. And those units did not even think about skipping. Buyer beware. And remember Once you buy the Clarion drx 9675z You will probably never find a buyer for you $500 preamp headunit that may sound bettter that a 200 pioneer but can't play half as good as one. SKIP, SKIP, Repeat mode is stuck on and no button turns it off JUNK!

Summary:
Great head unit. Best sounding unit I have ever owned. Since I bought this head unit I don't even miss my symetry. You can really dial any kind of music fast. It is easy to navigate the screens. Unless the unit is having a bad day.Talk to anyone who has one of these for a long peroid of time. This is also the most tempermental unit ever. I have owned just about every head unit out there. This has to be the best sounding probably It has the most features. You don't have to buy any processors to get dsp. But you better buy a spare head unit so when the clarion drx 9675z is in for warranty you still have tunes in your ride. I bought this unit in april It made it about a month before problems started. Stupid stuff every button on the face activates or deactivates Repeat mode. I mean every button. That sucks when you spend $500 plus. Then it gets better, the cd player gets more fussy all the time. I love to go on and tell you the wonderfull features. But if you are reading this you want to know what this thing will do after you drop some cash on one. It is now october this was properly mounted and never smoked near. You have to be a real die hard audiophile to put up with this thing. If I did not like it so much when it works and did not have nearly $600 dollars invested I would toss the thing back in its box.

This thing is in a class by itself. The only $545.00 head unit that has no internal amp and won't play half of the cd's in your collection. And some days it may play a cd and then decide error 3 the next time you play it. Then only to play the same cd a minute later. If you like to blow money and swear at your head unit. And have to be without and resort back to OEM while the wonderfull Clarion drx 9675z is in for repairs. Well the this is the product for you.

Review 3 of 16

Price Paid:  $300.00 from eBay

Year / Model Reviewed:
 DRX9675z

Strengths:
24-bit D/A, TV/CD changer/etc. controls built in, fiber optic output. Gives you a lot for the $$. 64 colors with good resolution display! Adjustable wallpapers, contrast control, you can bypass/edit/adjust DSP settings, EQ settings, and choose EQ presets. Also has nice spect. anylzers. Clarion reliability and excellent sound; tuner is very good too. Menu-type user interface. Looks as good as it sounds! Not your usual Wal-Mart kind of unit! Clean 4v, 33-Ohm preamp output. NICE! :)

Weaknesses:
Large (and EXPENSIVE) LCD control panel, remote is larger and bulky (why?), Clarion customer service is harder to deal with than your mother-in-law.

Summary:
Very nice unit: Audio is very clean, with a well designed chassis, wiring, and overall design. Looks good at night! LOTS of features, including built-in DSP functions. Still beats most models on the market for features vs. sound! Sound is close to DRX9255 quality, almost. Much nicer than all the JVCs I've heard or installed, and almost all others...

Review 4 of 16

Price Paid:  $500.00

Year / Model Reviewed:
 01' Clarion DRX9675z

Strengths:
Nice 64 color display face

Weaknesses:
Useless "Standard" and "Professional" modes, slow volume and track selection reaction

Summary:
I purchased this unit a while ago at my local audio shop for a good deal. At first I was pleased with the deck until I heard my first Alpine head unit(7874). In my opinion I would not recommend this head unit. One of the reasons why is the main feature of this deck is the "Standard and "Professional" modes. The Standard mode is horrible. There are 5 different parametric bands that you can select (Hall, Livehouse, etc.). Three out of the five are hard to differentiate. The only two that have an audible difference are the Hall and Studio modes which don't do much except make it sound terrible. Professional mode is very hard to understand and quite frankly sounds worst than Standard mode. Another flaw about the unit is the volume and track search buttons-they are really slow to react. I found myself always waiting for the deck to catch up with the depression of the buttons. Bottom line I would not recommend this unit to anyone. If you are looking for a Clarion single DIN unit-look somewhere else.

Review 5 of 16

Price Paid:  $675.00 from Car Trends Tulsa, Ok

Strengths:
Everything. Period.

Weaknesses:
Doesn''t have the output voltage that the old 9255 had, but that is what Line Drivers are for!

Summary:
I purchased the DRX-9675z as soon as it came out. I expected a world beater, and I was not disappointed. Compared to my old DRX 9255 (considered the best sounding CD player of all time), the 9675 holds it''s own. Outstanding features, including two different modes (Pro and Standard), DSP, Seating position, 64 color screen, and selectable 7 band EQ(Standard Mode), 24-Bit D/A & 20-Bit A/D convertors really make this baby sing. Built in TV tuner control allows for further upgrading. This unit should cost over a thousand, but is a steal at $675, and down right sick at the price it is selling on E-Bay right now.
