Strength:

Quality, sound and picture

Weakness:

scratches on screen, but i got it used.

I bought the Eclipse 7001 used off ebay. I looks a little old and had a few scracthes on the screen, but U can't see them at night. I works great and the picture quality is very nice. It sound very nice on my stock speakers and My sub kicks harder than before. I have it hooked up to a Clarion in-dash DVD player that a got about a week later and am looking into a TV tuner for the future. Id you can't afford 1500 - 3000 for a new unit, try picking up one of these on ebay (cost me about $600 - $700 for the eclipse and the DVD player. )

Alpine cva-1000 is a joke compared to the 7001.It only has 2 pre-outs and the sound can't even compete.

Strength:

Sound.Easy to use. Good picture and great quality.

Weakness:

Face not motorized.

Got the 7002 and the in dash changer all for $800 bucks. Best sound I've heard out of an in dash ever. Hooked up my dreamcast and dvd player and the picture is good but great for dvd. Cd-Ch is great and easy to operate. One thing is that you need a 2 or 4 channel amp for your highs and mids to get the best out of the unit. I don't have one yet and it's running through my factories and it's getting a loud hiss at low volumes. Other than that this is a great unit. Much better than the Alpines, Kenwoods, Pioneer, and Panasonics in that order. My system as of now is:

Xtant Mono Block 250x1=JLAudioW3(needs LFQ to be perfect)
Boston RMX6 in rears
Eclipse 7002
Eclipse 5962

Strength:

Real clean sound works great, have'nt had any problems with the motor.picture quality is nice.

Weakness:

cant seem to get the clock to display on the screen but no big deal,i always have my watch on,still would be nice though.

i would recommend this product for it's qulity looks, because compared to the clarion the clarion looks more like a toy for kids and the 7001 looks more like for the big boys,my system is all for show im running nothing but eclipse except for the navigation, dvd, playstation and vcr,my setup is as follows head unit 7001,cd changer 5961,1st and 2nd row seperates,8701 3 way line source, frt center 8961 point source,3 rd row 8941 point source, subs 4 8810.6 aluminum dvc cones,2 accelle integrated 5in head rest monitors, accelle a/v switcher box, sony play station, jvc 4 head hifi streo dc output vcr,4 lightning audio caps, lighitning audio battery isolator,2 nd battery optima yellow top, lightning audio gold plated battery clamps, alpine navigation system rear mounted wide angle camera installed into rear hatch keyhole, automatically turns in when put into reverse,i think thats about it feel free to contact me for in fo regarding this truck or any eclpse product, the reason i gave only four stars for value is because the money i invested to this car is alot!!!!!!!!! but overall this is a kick@ss system that sounds awesome.

I've had the unit for about one month now and it's great. Its sound is excellent and it looks great too. I have it connected to an Eclipse 8 disc changer, Panasonic DVD player, and Audiovox TV tuner. Just trying to make a decision on what to do about navigation. According to an Eclipse rep that I spoke with, the Alpine navigation is supposed to work very well. I like the fact that the screen swivels from side to side as opposed to the alpine with does not.

I've owned a 7001 for a few months. The picture is very good and clear. The sound is excellent. The controls are simple and clear. The installation isn't unusually difficult. The price is a bit steep, I paid $1100. The largest drawback that I have found is the absense of an available visual navigation system to hook up to the unit.

Bought this after returning Alpine unit/DVD player...Eclipse sounds dramatically better and, although I needed to get a cd changer to use it, it's strengths far outweigh it's shortcomings. Was slightly upset that navigation system won't work with it, but from what I'm seeing, it may be best to wait a couple years for prices to drop and service to improve.Concerning the sound, this unit sounded far more liquid...more real than the Alpine (which sounded harsh and hard) and more like my home stuff.
Now it's time to buy a portable dvd player...or is Eclipse going to release a DVD-Audio player soon? I wonder....
