Review 2 of 3

Price Paid:  $229.00

Strengths:
many features to tailor sound AUX input

Weaknesses:
2 button presses needed to change station tiny text not very readable not very "user-friendly"

Summary:
I bought the Kenwood X789 to replace a Kenwood KDC522 which did not have an AUX input. The X789 is technically equal or superior to the 522 but its useability is a big step backwards. On the X789 it takes 2 button presses just to change a station - the first press to get to the button display, then wait a bit, then press the desired button to go to a preset station. The text on the X789 is in three lines, and tiny - not very readable when compared to the big text on the 522. The X789 has a lot of features but it seems that many of them are not oriented towards making the radio useable, they're just whiz-bang stuff. The user interface is at times confusing and requires many button presses, and there always seems to be an annoying too-long built-in delay after you press a button, before anything happens.
