Model Reviewed: Kenwood KDC-X589

Strength:

GREAT sound - smooth, warm, clear, undoubtedly due to the 24 bit dac.

Weakness:

TERRIBLE, maddening software needed to use "advanced" voice prompt and direct AAC track selection features. Also terrible Kenwood support/web site/manual.

The truly excellent sound of this unit, along with some useful extended eq functionality make this a top choice in the price range. Its control layout is irritating, but that's apparently par for the course. AAC is cool, but not really needed; and the necessity to program disks with the utterly awful software in order to get full functionality makes the extra features more trouble than they're worth.
